My uncle has gotten rich, three times and is now middle class. My moms bestie was poor until her she inherited wealth. Her husband comes from a megarich family that didn't help out. He had a high roller job but lost it and they were poor for a long period. Right around the time he inherited, he also hit another high roller gig.

my parents started a business that failed in about 87, a marina. Filed bankruptcy, dad went crawling back to his prior company and luckily got re-hired.

They are doing extremely well now, so yes, it can be done, my dad was about 32 at that time.

sold some large cap holdings and transferred them into my savings account when i was buying a new vehicle. had to transfer that to my checking account, but apparently that transfer didn't go through, so i got hit with some insufficient fund fees after the check cleared. called the bank to complain, and they dropped the fees and were really good about it. one of the most embarrassing days of my life.

Got laid off twice in three yrs back in the Financial crisis. Altogether was off work for nearly 12 mths, went from good money to $1600 a month unemployment.

My Mortgage is $1,360 so it killed me financially.

Just now recovering somewhat

No, I haven't. I am not sure if its skill or luck or just not taking chances, but I have never been broke. Even in college, I never got below $50 in checking.

Whore of an ex-girlfriend took off with a group of her addict friends with my debit card and paid all of their bills and overdrew my account by about $700. This was when I was young and not rich. I was really fricked and didn't have a penny to my name, rent and all other bills due, etc. I gave up my lease and lived out of my car for a month to save enough cash to catch up on bills and get a footing.

That was eight years ago. I'm making about twice what I made then and have about twice my annual income in savings, in addition to a healthy 401k. I'd say I've recovered.

She, unfortunately, has not.

Then he was never rich. He just had a large salary. There's a difference between the two.
