About 20 plus years ago I was in the military getting ready to move to another base and I threw out a bunch of stuff clothes, books etc.. a few months later I had remembered I had left a 500 dollar savings bond in one of them. I wrote a letter to the treasury a few months later. These were the days of snail mail 6 months later I got a letter saying something to the effect of they had no record and couldn't be replaced. my 500 dollar story

I threw away an ex-girlfriend's dirty panties after we broke up one time. What I wouldn't give to have one last sniff.

I accidentally washed a winning Powerball ticket in the washing machine. It was like 140 million. Sucks because I could have used the money.

Nope. My family tried to get me on hoarders and I was about to cave and then I see your post. This is exactly why I keep everything. Thanks internet stranger, I almost made a terrible mistake.

I have thrown away money several times. I don't remember ever being a time when it was a lot.. The most might have been a $20... It seems like the times I did it, it was always change from when I bought something and just threw the change in the bag then forgetting I put it there.
With that said, this past Christmas, a few days before Christmas my mom accidently threw out $400.. Over the past several years her memory has gotten worse and that wasn't the first time she threw away a few hundred.

My dad told me he used to have quite a few Mickey Mantle rookie baseball cards. And he threw them away when he was a child.
So there's that. But I am sure that is quite common so to speak with old baseball cards and our fathers.

I had a John Starks jersey that from about 20 years ago that was going for $350 on eBay. I let my 14 year old son wear it. There was a shoe bag in an empty box on the floor for 3 days. I threw it away thinking it was trash. My son several days later was looking for the jersey and told me he left it in a Nike bag, asking me had I seen it. Woops

Just recently, I changed my membership status at Costco from executive to just a regular membership. I got my rebate for last year in the mail for a total of $65. I thought it was only good for renewing your executive membership. I didn't know it was good for items as well.
I was able to get them to re-issue me a new check (has not arrived yet)

That explains so much. I was told 2 winning tickets were sold but the other winner never came forward. Perhaps I'll buy you a beer one day to make things square.

If you grew up in the 80's and your mom threw out your Teddy Ruxpin or Lite Brite, that is sad. They are worth a lot of money now.
