Ive been to jail, but never been to prison. Jail is essentially a holding cell.

A few hours in a holding pen.
It was dirty. Like never cleaned.

Spent a night in OPP once for jumping on a moving fire truck. Wasn't so bad. Played dominoes with the inmates.

Been arrested in cuffs, but they let me sit in the lobby until my friend was able to run to an ATM to get my bail money. Never been behind bars in a jail.

Spent the night in jail once for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Had weed on me at the time of the arrest that somehow never made it onto the police report. Guessing the cop pocketed it to sell or keep for himself.

No, but my brother spent 18 months in the Bradshaw State Jail in Texas a few years ago for drugs and theft.
When he got out we were sitting around the campfire one night talking, and he said it wasn't that bad in there. He's a pretty big dude and said once you beat up a couple people, the rest kind of leave you alone. He did teach me one thing, if anyone ever postures up to you like they want to fight...your best bet is to throw the first punch because you're going to fight anyway. Nobody's going to come wrap their arms around you from behind to keep you from going at each other like a middle school fight.
He also said there's 3 distinct groups in the pen Mexicans, Blacks, and Whites...and you pretty much just stay with your kind. He also said you could tell when they'd bring in the little skinny dope-head white kids for the first time, he could hear them crying in their beds at night.

A friend's brother did a couple of years in prison and said it's the most racist place he's ever experienced.

I was in & out of Angola every day for 2 years, we had a big roofing contract, was no fun. Guys on my crews were friends with lots of inmates in there.

10 days. A person inappropriately touched my small child and that person ended up in the hospital in pretty bad condition.
This was 25 years ago. In August with no air. Other than that, it wasn't bad. Some of the guys had a nintendo and several games they were allowed to have. Time went by fast. Also, they allowed family to bring you food from anywhere anytime of day.
Charges were thrown out and I was released. Officially have a clean record.
