Used to be a bar named "Rosies" in Pelican, Ak. It was famous among fishermen. When a crew would have a good opening, it wasn't uncommon for one to buy drinks for everyone, all night.

Sorta related, I have a friend who is a professional mariner and when he would get back from his four or five months at sea, he'd usually at least buy the house a round.

Yeah, I've seen fishermen blow 5k in a weekend at Rosies. Used to be a hot spot, Rose sold it and it's not the same anymore.

The bar did a few times.
Like when LSU won the SEC championship or when LSU won the CWS or Super Regional.
Special occasions

The stupidest thing I ever did was buy a round for a bar. My tab was $770 and Patron shots were on $3 special. I don't know what extra got added to my tab, but I am still mad at myself about that 10 years later.

LSU won the CWS

In the bulldog in Lafayette several years ago some guy bought like 50 shots of jack and had the barmaid line them around the bar. I took 1 or two and so did my buddies. There weren't that many people in the bar though. Guy ended up doing like 6 himself and didn't see him for the rest of the night

When I was in a band. Owner of one of the bars we played at a few times was hammered one night, during our 30min break he yelled "FREE JAGER FOR EVERYODY!!" and had a couple of bartenders pass out jager shots for everyone.

At Avenue Pub a few weeks ago. Guy bought about fifteen people shots. He was from out of town and just happy to be hanging in New Orleans.

Was in a hole in the wall bar in central Florida while working outta town. Was a cool bell hanging by the bar, so I rang it. Everyone got real excited. Turned out that the bell-ringer buys a round.
I miss that bar.
I miss that bar.

Way back in the day Bret Favre bought shots for everyone in a bar in Slidell. Supposedly his brother used to always do it

Buddy hit a blackjack on an orange chip in Columbus. Everyone at the Cantina was happy we came there that day.

When I was in the service they had a bell hanging at the bar of the E.M. club. Should you enter with your "cover" (hat) on and they rang the bell before you removed it, then you bought all at the bar a round.
Also when someone would re-enlist normally they would post a $50.00 bill on the bar and drinks were free while it lasted. I only saw this happen overseas and a long time ago. Booze was cheap and $50.00 was a lot of money.
Fun times...

When I lived in Lake Charles people used to do it all the time. It's awesome.

In Cabo this last summer, yes. But there were only about 15 people in the bar....it was a Saturday afternoon.

On a bus in cancun, two columbian guys pulled out twin bottles of aged tequila and made everyone on the bus take a shot.
I know we were on a bus, but those guys had to be pushing weight.
I held a fundraiser in 2009 and donated the entirety of the alcohol.
It is common for local politicians to "buy the bar" for a few hours. Patrick, running for assessor in 06, dropped 7k on a bartab in a small town and lost the election two weeks later. I drank an entire bottle of courvoisier in that two hour period and had to be cut off. I then opened my own tab and was later told to leave for chanting the other guy's name.
