Scary situation when in water. Young guy did good backing down, probably could have done better by saying "sorry, have a good day" and then noping out the second the guy showed his temper.

I mean if the kids were fishing in the channel with no lights on at 5am and it’s not a no wake zone…….

I’d be pissed if they called me a **** too.

But the guy is still a **** either way.

Did you even watch the video? The kid he went berserk on wasn’t the person without lights. He told him as much damn near instantly

At the end the kids said it was his friend on the boat I thought. And no I’m not defending the dude.

State of Florida defines conveyance as "any motor vehicle, ship, vessel, railroad vehicle or car, trailer, aircraft, or sleeping car...".

At minimum, we have burglary of an occupied conveyance.

"In Florida, the crime of Burglary of an Occupied Conveyance is a Second Degree Felony and punishable by up to fifteen (15) years in prison, fifteen (15) years of probation, and a $10,000 fine."

Serious question, if someone boards your boat like that in a hostile manner and you shoot them…where does that fall, legally?

Seems like it would be a legal self defense shoot, as long as you don’t shoot the guy in the back as he’s retreating back to his own boat.

Any reasonable person would assume that someone in that state of rage who boards your vessel like that is coming aboard because they mean to harm you. Pew pew would be completely justified IMO

Yep I think he does, his voice gets super high pitched right when that happens and he’s begging. Doesn’t seem like the kid pushed it to me

The kid was hitting the throttle to try and get away. The guy is still in the back of the boat. No way he could've hit the throttle.

Right in my back yard and no I dont know that toolbag.

Ive never seen anything go so viral as this did today. I am a member of a lot of saltwater facebook (yes im old) pages and ive seen no fewer than 500 post about it, if not 1000

The other 3 guys in the boat with him were also licensed captains. He was probably trying to impress them by attacking this kid. It was a bad call.

There are posts from the local sheriffs office, USCG, sponsors and more about this incident. He royally fricked up and he will lose his business and his license over it. And its well deserved. You are the professional. You just dont treat people like that

Like stated above, Florida is the wrong place for him to do what he did. He just picked the boat where the other guy was not carrying. And that is luck for him down here

Florida Stand Your Ground statute says one does NOT have a duty to retreat as long as you are there legally and not engaged in unlawful activity (obviously, being on his own vessel the kid is on solid legal ground here). Once a subject makes a claim of self-defense (video here supports that), the burden of proof is on the prosecution to prove it was not self-defense. The fact a fishing boat is chock full of ready made weapons (knives, gaffs, hooks, lead, etc) and that douche 's agitated actions I think the kid is amply justified in ventilating him.

The other passengers especially if fellow captains should have done something the deescalate or intervene. They sat on their hands instead of attempting to calm him or deflect some of his attention. To 22 yr old did good to stand down. A brawl on open water could easily end in drowning. We need to stop calling 20 something "kids" but in this case claiming to be a child may have helped calm this nut.

That dude wouldn't be leaving my boat except in a body bag if he jumped on board like that.

Would you roundhouse him? I’ll bet you’d roundhouse him. Then would you bang his old lady? I’ll bet then you’d bang his old lady. Then you’d buy a tshirt that says “Captain Bad arse. King of the Water. Don’t mess with me. Or I’ll roundhouse you.”

Four other grown males - not men - stood by and did NOTHING to get that jackwagon to stop his clownery. They’re pathetic and examples of the sheep that allow coyotes like Captain Insano to act out.

The kid is obviously at least 18 - an adult per LE report - the fact he ran his trap at another man instead of just rolling out and then started begging like a whiney woman when he got boarded is also shameful.

Old saying, if you’re gonna jaw jack it, be ready to knuckle back it.

This is the only resonable part of your post:

This, I think, gets to the more interesting piece of this scenario.

How many on this board would rein in a friend, brother, boss that was way over the line?

Get away from what? The guy boards right next to the throttle. He isn’t getting away from someone already on board
