We put up our Christmas lights early to ease the pain of early darkness and the time change. Christmas lights look nice coming home for work. Thanksgiving is still my favorite holiday

No we cannot.
Let me explain.
I love Christmas and I love Thanksgiving. In early November, I get all my Christmas decorations up and all my gifts bought and wrapped…so that:
When the Christmas season officially begins - I can maximize my time spending it with the people I love. Almost everyone is off work from Thanksgiving day through Sunday - so I spend all of it with my loved ones celebrating Thanksgiving (with Christmas decorations around us that we pay no attention to).
I don’t spend those four days putting up decorations.

I saw a Christmas tree in a bay window driving, two weeks before Halloween.
They skipped two holidays.

Thanksgiving is the best holiday ever. My favorite was in grad school going to the airport/getting on a plane to go home and the big gathering at a family's house. Such a great time with no stress on getting/receiving presents. Just cook and show up.
There are tons of houses/businesses with professional Christmas lights shining right now. It is because of logistics. As a customer you want to get in ASAP because if you wait until after Thanksgiving you would be SOL. My wife's biggest trauma as a child were her parents procrastinating getting the tree and we go get it a week before Christmas and all that is left are Charlie Brown trees. Its the same with Christmas lights. The lighting company I use is slammed and has to start in late October in order to ensure all their regular customers are lit by December 1st. Mine were installed last week. This is also the case for DIY people. It is a lot of work for just a few weeks of bliss, so why not extend the joy?
I get what you are saying though. Houses should be lit up in fall Thanksgiving colors, but those days are just about gone.
A couple years ago a house in my neighborhood was covered in Thanksgiving turkey blowups, fall wreaths on the door, etc. They had a big sign that said "This is our holiday."

I think one reason people start early now is that they want Christmas to last longer, but most don’t know that Christmas isn’t supposed to end on December 25th… that’s when Christmas starts
Back in the day, they did not decorate for Christmas until Christmas Eve. Commercialization changed that.
And yes I laugh at the people who get pissed that the decor is still up on January 2nd. It's still Christmas.

I hate that we overlook the 2nd best holiday (Halloween is the best) for Christmas.
I can not stand Christmas and the entire holiday season. It is full of forced BS and anxiety.
I'm usually in a terrible mood from late November until the New Year because of FCKKIG Christmas.
American Holiday Season is a cancer.

It's insane to me how Thanksgiving is basically a dead holiday and Christmas has grown to such an insanely absurd season.
Halloween and Thanksgiving are by far my favorite holidays. Low stress and enjoyable
Christmas has become way too expensive and drawn out where by the time Christmas Day gets here you’re sick of it all

Sure, but it’s on the individual to do it.
In my house we go big for Halloween and Christmas. November is a nice little month between the two to pause, reflect, and enjoy the pre-Christmas rush.
We don’t decorate until the weekend after thanksgiving. I won’t listen to Christmas music either until then. I like to give each holiday it’s time since we only get so few in our life.
Costco was selling Christmas trees in September. I just ignore it. Personally, it’s not Christmas until thanksgiving passes.

until recently I worked for a very large retailer that you would know the name of , on the logistics/shipping side. The last few years stores in our company were getting seasonal feature pallets (think like xmas decorations, wrapping paper, etc) at the beginning of October. a lot of places it showed up before the turkeys did for thanksgiving.
This is a bit different that pre covid when there was more of a gap, at least in my experience. But HQ it trying to minimize using shelf space on thanksgiving and jumping from halloween to xmas because those two move sales way more.
it also results in worse conditions for the workers because a lot of stores have smaller back rooms than youd think and getting 8-10 pallets of xmas shite that has to take up space for a month before it can be realisically merchandised is a huge PITA.
Also store managers have very little input into what gets shipped into the stores and when, thats all decided at a regional or corporate level. So the pallets show up and then it's their problem to store and deal with.
so erasing thanksgiving kind of sucks all around.

People have been saying this same shite for 30 years.

Pretty much.
I don’t think Christmas decorations should start going up until at least the afternoon or evening of Thanksgiving Day.

It’s a lot of work, putting up all those decorations. Thanksgiving isn’t nearly as good as Christmas. Enjoy the holiday season

Didn’t millennials kill it because of the Indians/Pilgrims thing.

Thanksgiving is just an excuse to leave for the hunting camp at noon Wednesday

Then don’t put them up.
I get the tree and some other things here and there but going all out on decorations is just a waste of time and money, IMO.
