Northshore for 25 years
Nashville for 6 years

Family still all down there. I am the only family member that lives out of state. Don’t plan on coming back unless specific opportunities occurs. Miss the people, food, culture, and pride down there. Also, the bond of natural disasters, I think many states don’t have so many people relate to each other. Very proud to say I am from New Orleans and a LSU grad. Makes me realize how cheap the COL is down there compared to here.

Oh great. Another thread where a bunch of people graduated from LSU and moved all the way to Houston or Dallas and now think they’re all worldly and shite so they can look down upon the silly peons that chose to stay near their friends and family.

Same here. 8 states, 1 foreign country, I don’t even know how many schools, I’d be lying if I tried to put a number on it.

I live several states away from where I grew up, but oddly enough, pretty close to the small town where my mom grew up.

Lived and liked other places more, but this (LA) is home.

Our State has a preponderance of poor, uneducated people and it brings the whole state down. Terrible public education, and we spend a lot of state tax dollars and resources providing aid to these people.
Louisiana is gifted with a lot of natural resources, hospitality, and outdoor activities, and there's always something to do.

Family is here, so I'm here.

It's been 35 years since I lived where I grew up. Never had any interest in staying, have even less interest in going back.

70 miles away for college
230 miles away for med school
240 miles away for residency

Currently 800 miles away.

50% of my life has been outside a 50 mile radius.

I was born at Ochsner in 1965. My dad was in the oil business, so by the time I turned 18, we’d lived all over South Louisiana—New Orleans, Houma, Morgan City, Lafayette, The Dell—and even spent four years in Houston.

As an adult, I kept moving with job transfers—Dallas, Kansas City, and the Atlanta area. When I think about it, I’ve spent about 80% of my life outside the New Orleans area. On top of that, I’ve done a ton of traveling for work, which gave me the chance to see a lot of the country and meet all kinds of great people. That’s probably been the best part—getting to know folks from different places and backgrounds.

Everyone’s got their own preferences when it comes to where they live and how they live. But I’ve found that the more you get out and experience different places and people, the more it possibly opens your mind and adds depth to your life.

Moved back in with my dad the summer after I finished undergrad in 2015, before I went to grad school.

Have not lived in Louisiana since. Lived in 3 different states. Hopefully our most recent move will be our last.

I know people that went off to college or grad school and could not wait to move back to their home town. They are happy, so good for them. But I don't get it. I would never want to be stuck in one place for 85-90% of my life.

I've lived in and out of the US as a civilian and it's taught me that human nature is the same everywhere, but cultures and norms differ wildly. Above all, I value the freedoms that are unique to America. The people of the South Pacific are collectively the best in the world, though. Inner-city US blacks are collectively the worst. No honor.

Lived in a 50 mile radius in Georgia for 53 years then packed up everything and moved 500 miles away to south Florida about 5 years ago.

Best thing I ever did, dont regret it one bit and wished I would have done it 20 years ago

I moved my business which was a big deal since I have a service industry. Moved from a place that I was fairly well known and had a following that helped get business to a place where not a soul knew me and I basically didnt know anyone. It was a risk but I figured if I was good at my job there, I would be good at my job here

I have moved around myself, wouldn't trade the experiences, plus my hometown is in the Arkansas Delta and looks like a bomb went off in it.

I have a nephew who is about 32, lived his entire life in a 20 mile radius,
college was there, job is their, wife from there, got married as a sophomore in college. He also has family there, so it works for him.

Like everything else, it depends.

I was born an raised in Baton Rouge. Born in 1979, and moved away to Australia in 2000. I returned to the United States in 2005 to inherited property in Madisonville. I've been here ever since. I'm seriously thinking of selling off the last of the land when I retire, and moving up to the mountains somewhere.

How has this experience shaped you?
I was a young, married buck when I moved to Oz. It was a giant leap and a roll of the dice. Worked out well. Since I could not get into the military because of my eyesight, this gave me the kick in the arse I needed to grow up. However, the cost of living was insane there, and when I inherited some land and house, we moved back to the U.S.

Your personal growth and development?
Moving 9,000 miles from for your family makes you learn to adult pretty fast.

Opened your eyes?
Moved from Baton Rouge to a city of 4.5 million made me realize I do not like the city life. It was fun and new for a little while, but then the dregs of city life creep in. I was fortunate to spend a couple of years living outside of the city, in a small Aussie town of a couple of thousand. Those were the best times.

Confirmed your convictions?
The United States is still the best God damn country in the world.
