I’m related (by marriage) to the Mayor of Madisonville.

Very close friend, former college roommate who first ran for state rep in 1995 (he's now MUCH higher up the political ladder, you can figure out who he is).
Back then, his 1st go-round, he ran a very grass-roots, volunteer-driven campaign, and I had helped out quite a bit on weekends during the campaign season, going door-to-door, etc. Although he was a natural "fit" for his house district, didn't have much in the way of competition, and we figured he would win, this was his first-ever election and you never know.
On Election Day, we were all operating out of his apartment as we had been all season long-- sending crews out to neutral ground intersections, waving signs, etc. He was busy as a beaver with arranging all that and going out himself to major intersections.
As the day came to a close, we all went back to our respective homes and showered and cleaned up, and many of us were assigned to go to polling places once they closed, and then call in the tally numbers which had been posted.
We all then went to the rented hall for the party, with beer and drinks and food and music. The candidate was mingling with everyone, in high spirits (not TOO high, maybe downing a few beers) and truly having a good time.
Staffers were on computers adding up the numbers called in from each precinct. When he got above 50% of registered voters in the District, we knew he had won, and we celebrated more, and he gave a nice speech thanking us all.
Good times.
Helped again in '99, but not as much as he was more established and I had kids by then.

They are usually working their arse off until the polls close. Then sit back and watch the results come in
This. And if it's their first time the candidate and the entire family is generally nervous af and excited as hell if they win.
After the second time they're used to it.

A girl I went out with in high school ran for Vice President last year. They almost beat Hillary in Utah.

Lived next door to Sid Gautreaux for years when I was younger. In Baker before it turned into a third world country.

Physically close? Yeah. She did my daughter’s adoption.
Not only is she hot, she’s a decent person.
