Have any of you ever been close to a well-known candidate on election day?

By "well-known" I just mean someone that is running for an office higher than Pointe Coupee Police Jury such as mayor, state rep, US rep, senate, etc.
How were they behind the scenes on election day? Nervous? Drunk?
I've always wondered how the candidate spends his or her day, seeing as all they can do now is hope and pray, especially in a tight race.

They are usually working their arse off until the polls close. Then sit back and watch the results come in

St Bernard Sheriff count?

My guess is it would depend on the person.
I know a guy who was elected Mayor twice, he spent election day with his family and friends calm and collected, just like it was just another day. Very humble and kind, one of the best men I've ever known. Always wished he had pursued higher offices, but he just wanted to make a difference and felt the mayor position was the best place for him to have a positive impact.

Just a City Councilwoman who stole some $$ from the taxpayers....got caught......then lied about it afterwards. She lasted one term

Yes, currently, big race in Louisiana. cool as a cucumber.

Ran a campaign for a pretty powerful (relatively speaking) parish-wide office.
He spent the day making a couple calls and we had a "results party". We were confident in the win so there wasn't much to be anxious over. Once early voting results posted we knew we won so we went down and shook hands, spoke to the crowd, cleaned everything up, and went out to eat.
The next day was probably more nerve-wracking. Had to do interviews and shite and coordinate picking up signs and what not.

Was getting hammered with Eddie's group in I think 84.
My dad knew someone who knew someone.
Eddie wasn't a drinker and was sober as a church mouse

I just feel like I'd be so nervous wondering if all the campaigning was for nothing.

Definitely NOT drunk. There is still some coordinating and work being done in the background on election day. From those I've been around, I would say confidence is what I saw.

A good friend of mine in middle/high school had a parent who was a representative & ultimately US senator. I was with my friend at the election party on election night for one of the races. We were like 14, but I remember everything being chaotic and energetic. They spent the day talking to people nonstop. No rest.
It was weird to be at her house on normal days. A politician is never “off.” The interactions always felt staged, not relaxed.

Look. Some serious shite can go down at a Pointe Coupee Police Jury meeting. That's a serious job... or was.

I'm sure he probably is but isn't letting it show. I'd be a nervous wreck as well

Yes. Worked many governor, lt gov, senate, congressional races and been around or with the candidate.
They’re way too busy to be drinking or nervous. Both of those things don’t occur until after polls close. And by that time their usually mingling at their victory parties.

Good friend of mine ran for State Senate in 2007. The election was the night of the Demetrius Byrd Auburn Catch. We were at his grandfathers house for the election night party and I know he was nervous as shite.
