My truck was towed while I was ordering lunch. They claimed I was parked in a lot for tenants only. The fact that it happened so fast meant the d***head tow driver was just waiting for someone to park there. There were two no parking signs, one was face down on the concrete about 30’ away and the other one was facing the opposite direction so that it could not be read coming from my direction. I took photos of them and went to court. I got my $300 back.
I am not a lawyer but I loved watching Boston Legal.

hard to say. ifv they show up, you get a default judged but then you have to nag the sheriff's department to confiscate their assets and that's a huge pain.

I sued Delta Airlines in small claims court because they destroyed my dive bag and some scuba equipment. About $600 total and they just ignored me.

Delta hired some high dollar law firm in NOLA and had the case removed to Federal Court - - literally wanting to a make a Federal case out of it.

I made it my personal mission to become subject matter expert on the Federal baggage handling law they were hanging their hat on and was able to file briefs to have the case returned to small claims court.

I guess the finally stopped and realized how much money they were spending on this small claim. Delta probably had $20k in attorney fees when they finally asked me what I wanted. By this point I was pissed and arbitrarily said $5,000.

They cut me a check and the case was dismissed.

So, what could have originally been resolved for an apology and $600 ended up costing Delta somewhere around $25k-$30k just because they were stupid and wanted to automatically fight.

Express Oil showed up to court with a lawyer and their oil change specialist and approached me before the case started. They wanted to settle for half of what I told them it cost me. I told them to shove it. The Lawyer told me I would lose the case since he was smarter than me and I would get nothing.

If I was negotiating with someone, and I thought I was smarter than them, I would never ever tell them that.

I sued a roofer that repaired a roof leak and the roof kept leaking - it was a pain in the arse.
He ended up fixing it, but it was exhausting having to go to court. It was exhausting because he blocked my number so I went to court.

The only time I go in the courthouse is to pay property tax yearly.

Why even go then when you can pay online in most counties and parishes now?

Brings to mind a pet peeve/story. Friend was renovating a house and complaining about A/C prices. He asked me if I knew anyone. All I did was, tell him who I used for A/C work at my house because they were always solid with me- good on maintenance, and replaced a unit once for a reasonable price. He got a quote from them and later complained to me- repeatedly- how high they were. So he went with someone else. Then more than once, he made a point to remind me "I got a much better price than the people that YOU recommended to me." Keep in mind-- I didn't volunteer this reference, or tell him they'd be the best for the job. All I did was answer his question when he asked.

Well as it turned out, the dude my friend hired took whatever part of the money he gave them, did a fraction of the work, then never showed up again and blocked his number. Then he had to hire a lawyer to sue them, and so he paid a lawyer to go get a judgment against the guy that has of course never been paid.

That was the absolute last time I ever recommended anyone to that dude.

LOL this is exactly why I try not to recommend "my guy" for anything. They either complain about them not doing a good job or they bitch at me about them being too high. They always forget they approached me about it. Then don't even ask me. Drives me fricking crazy.

Not small claims.

I won custody of my daughter with no attorney. The attorney I retained took my deposit and went MIA.

Anyway won custody then got in touch with the BAR and kicked the attorney's arse on his home court.

Be friendly with folks in those buildings downtown and make them want to help you is all I would say to anyone. It's just forms and knowing the right ones and what to say.

I didn't go to RICE. I have a 2sq. mile town HS edgumcation. WampusCat. The only thing I had going for me is I was young and trying to do the right thing. Those healthy women downtown appreciated that and helped with the right forms and right words.
