re: Have a Toyota Tundra? Dealers likely won't take it for a trade-in due to engine failures

How does this even happen in 2024? The quality checks seem unreal in O&G and aerospace. Not so much in automotive apparently.
Component failure happens.
Bottom end engine failure is very rare these days outside of Toyota. That’s indicative of an engineering flaw or, in Toyota’s case, poor manufacturing processes and quality control.
It’s Hyundai, not Toyota, that seems to have the most “WTF” kind of failures that you don’t expect anymore in 2024. Toyota will figure this out eventually but they are going to piss a lot of people off in the process. Hyundai is kind of messy.

You would be shocked at the lack of quality in some high level manufacturing / industrial facilities.

Never will buy a GM vehicle again, ever.
I said the same thing after I replaced, the transmission, the gas tank and the A/C compressor. The car was under 20,000 miles.

I just bought by 3rd tundra since 2008.
Having to buy a new one every 5 years ain’t helping your case. Have fun with your paper weight once your engine goes to shite.

Got to get the V8.
I drive a 2007 Tundra with the 5.7 V8. >17 years and no issues.
I have a 21. I think my value just went up.

Just work on your gotcha because context as well as general automotive knowledge would lead one to realize 4 is well within the range of user error than a widespread issue.
I know a Toyota apologist when I see one.

That is what happens when you go away from the sensible option of a traditional V8 and try and make suped up V6 a fullsize truck motor.
frick the government and their mandated bs.

V6 vs V8 has nothing to do with it.
Toyota fricked up the manufacturing process in that shite is being left in the engine blocks after machining.

I have a 2015. It is worth substantially more now than I paid.
All of you girly men that didn't get the v8 downvoted this? I'm glad you got handfuls of metal shavings in your blocks.
If you didn't DV, I hope you get 300k trouble free miles, unlike the sausage jockeys.

Toyota doesnt do quick innovation well at all.
They find something, refine and improve the **** out of it and use it for 20 years.
The new gen engines were all rushed because the Biden EPA is forcing CAFE fleet MPG improvements so instead of seeing bulletproof V6 TT engines in their full size vehicles in 5 years we got them before they were ready.
Probably see some of the same issues with the transmissions as well.
Don't rush Toyota / Lexus / Honda on new tech or bad things happen.

BTW, if you like the Tundra’s 5.7 V8, the Ram’s 5.7 V8 is virtually the same design except it has a cast iron block instead of aluminum, which means it’s less prone to warp or crack at high temps.
That's is a serious misstatement. The only commonality between them is that they both have 8 cylinders. I can't believe anyone would even make that statement......

I missed that ridiculous comment.
Not a single part will interchange between them but they are "virtually the same design".

This was me last year. I've been a GM guy all my life, but the last couple we've had were complete shite. All kinds of stuff failing well below 100k miles.
Was in the market for a new truck last year, and bought a 2024 Tundra in October. I wasn't crazy about going with the turbo V6, but so far I haven't had any issues (knock on wood). I did buy extended warranty for a bit more peace of mind.

Yep. At least until Toyota changes the Tundra.

I smell a volkswagen style buyback incoming soon.
And if that's the case, these owners will be sitting in these trucks for a while, while those details get inked out.

Toyota has too much sealant in the GR86 oil pans also resulting in engine failure. Gets loose and clogs the oil pickup tube. Toyota reluctant to warranty.

Yeah, that was a pretty odd thing to say. One engine is overhead cam design and the other is overhead valve.

Related news....Toyota's failure is Alabama's gain, since they'll be sourcing the replacement engine/engine parts from Huntsville.
Where do car plant baws fall on the truck nut continuum?

A better question: why do new tundras look like a damn transformer (robot toy) from 1989? Do you arm shavers like this shite?
