I walk to work

I only drive to the gym and the grocery store, that's it

Gym is a mile walk which I did this morning. I drive because there are homeless panhandlers asking for money or drugs on every single block at that time of the morning so I'd rather drive

No sense of urgency really, have groceries to last me until Sunday.

Any outlets in your parking garage? I've left interior lights on and accidentally ran my battery down before. Called in, requested to telework for 2-3 hours, then let the battery charge.

12V battery chargers are useful things to have around.

I live downtown. The number of places within walking distance that would sell an item like that are out of the question. I'd have to take the bus.

Closest Auto Zone is a 3 mile walk one way. It's below 32 degrees today, no thank you.

Sounds like you either need to get humble or man up. Even a local Zippy Mart or gas station convenience store will have a cheap set of jumper cables for under $20. Guaranteed. And probably even less.

But hey, like my pappy usta say, "If you're gonna be dumb, you'd better be strong." Or maybe it was "Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance." One or the other of these probably applies in this situation in some oblique way.

I had an Uber driver jump start my car. My battery died one night when I had to work late and no one was in the office or any of the other buildings around us. My wife was also out of town, and my office is in a shitty part of Memphis. I called Uber just to get a ride home for the night planning on getting a ride in the morning and using someone in the office's jumper cables. The Uber driver jumped me off and I gave him what cash I had on me (I think $15); he was really cool about it because he didn't want to drive me all the way to my house anyway.

Spend $50 and get a pocket car starter. MJ2 had a thread on these over a year ago and it was a great but I actually have never had my battery die since, but now I go out of my way to jump people when I see hoods up. They are always shocked that this device the size of a 1990's PDA can start their truck/car.

Find it hard to believe the tow company doesn't have a jumpbox for just such situations.

That's what I was thinking, if nothing else get the Uber guy to drive you to auto zone.

But I really replied to ask everyone who said "just use your insurance roadside service," who the hell do you think the roadside service is going to send out to him? A fricking tow truck, that's who.

State Farms roadside service was worthless when I called. I hitched a ride 50 miles round trip, bought an alternator, installed it, and bummed a jump start before State Farm's tow truck could arrive. ETA on State Farm's tow truck was 6 hours and I was back on the road in 4. Would have been 3 hours if I hadn't wasted time calling State Farm.

You can't be driving an Audi TT bro. And this is coming from a "2-door sports car" guy.
