This seems like a game changer in the laundry department

Your mom washed my balls last night, with her tongue.

Seems easier to just dump in some detergent as i do now. No way that thing works as well

A lot of the reviews seem to indicate otherwise
And the machine is doing most of the work anyway

I think the point is it's more economical
If one of these things can do 1000 loads of laundry and costs 10 dollars that's pretty much all your laundry for 3 years even if you did a load a day.

that looks awesome
my gf would veto this b/c i think the smells of laundry are 85% of why she does laundry

Uh.. will they do a better job then Tide powder? It doesn't seem like they could... so why would we want them?

They don't work, essentially you are washing your clothes in water. Any suds people see is usually any detergent that has been built up in their clothes from overuse. So the balls seem to be "working" at first but eventually stops.
Here is a link that takes a scientific approach with reviewing them, Eco egg is one.

We use the little PODS things. When throw a load on, I put two in the wash to give it some extra cleaning power (or at least in my head). Cost per wash isn't that much, plus after a year I'd have to buy a new one because in my mind I would think no way it's still effective.

That isn't true. Agitation certainly is a part of it but when you are talking dirts and oils, you need more than that to break them down. That is where detergent comes in.
Want cleaner clothes? Use a detergent that has enzymes (in ingredient list) or add a laundry booster like Oxy, Biz, borax. If you use a good detergent (Tide, Gain, Persil), you don't need a lot, like a tablespoon or two. Some people use the little cups that come with medicine instead of the caps on the detergent bottles. People tend to use too much detergent.

This is the correct answer.
That said, water is doing most of the work anyway, most people seriously overuse detergent.

Why wouldn't it do as good of a job? Because your dumb arse just declared it to be so on a message board?

They don't work
Luckily I'm not one of them!
Liquid or powder detergent works fine, how fricking hard is it to use?

Do they taste as good as tide pods?

No but I have something like that for drier. 2 blue balls, bigger than hard ball. Smaller than softball.. They fluff up the load. Dries faster.
