It's not to be taken lightly. Afib increases your chances of a strike and heart damage. It's treatable. Go see a cardiologist. Don't delay.

No offense meant, but are you morbidly obese? See that so very often in patients 290 and above.

I had a two week bout of it when I was 21. Scared the ever loving crap out of. Luckily I naturally came out of it and never had any issues since. Best advice I got from a doctor about it is to make sure you have a good amount of potassium in your diet or take a supplement. Caffeine and nicotine fight each other and deplete potassium in the body which can cause a fib.

The 3 people that I know that have had ablation procedure for afíb are height weight proportionate.

To OP…don’t ignore it. There are options.

A few in my family have it. Some of them have it where they'll go into AFib but then return to normal rhythm without any intervention. My dad's was chronic and he had to have cardioversion (a lil shock) to get back into rhythm, then that didn't work so they scheduled him for an ablation and have him on medication now. Disclaimer is that he's had heart problems for 20 years now including bypass and STEMIs.

Had a friend with it... It was bad enough to have to go in for an ablation, which worked for him. Unfortunately, he wound up having a heart attack and died about a year later. In his early fifties, he left a wife and two kids, don't mess around with it.

I did, I had a nasty fall that resulted in a broken neck and AFib as a side effect, never had it before. They did a procedure with a probe down my esophagus, it stopped the Afib, but cardiologist said it would likely come back. A few months later, I had surgery at Oschner in NO, they put probes into my heart from both femoral arteries, the alblation was over a year ago and no AFib.

There are several devices that will track to see when you have an incident, an Apple watch will.

I have it. Only one episode about 2-3 years ago. Made some lifestyle changes and have not had a issue since. Not taking any form of medication but do carry around some incase I go back into Afib. Also I wear a apple watch the checks for Afib, although when your HR is 170 while just sitting still, you wont need the watch to tell you something is wrong.

I have. Several times over the last 15 years. They call it lone a-fib because there was no real cause. But I’ve found that dehydration kicks it off. Lower in electrolytes and lower volume= increased heart rate. Rehydrate and rest and it goes away. I do still take a baby aspirin, being as the highest risk is developing a clot. Heck the American Heart Association says a baby aspirin reduces the risk of stroke by 15% with no adverse effects. So I’d take it regardless

I've got it. I would get dizzy spells. I never passed out but came real close a few times. I treat it with meds and a pacemaker. No issues since. Recently saw my cardiologist and was told that the pacemaker battery has about eight and one-half years left. If I live that long then I'll have to have it replaced.

It’s one of the biggest risk factors for stroke, and the strokes that happen from afib can be devastating. Don’t play around with afib.

It can, but I don’t believe it’s very reliable.

My father had AFib, which went undiagnosed for a long time, and took a toll on his health some time in his 70s. Despite what a previous poster suggests, my Dad was in amazing health for a man his age, and had a resting heart rate below 60 well into his 70s.

They ultimately put in a tri-lead pacemaker which helped a lot, until he had a massive stroke at 82. His imagining then showed that he had several mini strokes previously. He spent the next 4-1/2 years of his life in a bed with no use of his left arm or leg. I don’t say this to scare OP, but take it seriously, and be an advocate for your own healthcare. No one else is going to do it for you.

I had a family member that did. You need to go to the er and get them to get it under control. Then they will probably put you on blood thinners and monitor the heart at home with a chest monitor. After that month they will be able to tell if you are going in and out of it often on your own. You may not have even realized it was happening.

Have a friend in Cabrini in Alex. just had his heart shocked to get it back to normal. He's over 6 foot and probably about 275-300. His brother went to see him and saw an empty box of Popeyes in his trash can. Go figure.
