United is now upgrading all planes to Starlink. Incredible speeds on reviews. Maybe your plane will have Starlink.

It’s hit or miss with wifi. Sometimes it works sometimes it don’t. I’ve been on the same 737 on Monday that I could stream a movie and Friday they didn’t have it. Hopefully you get on one of the new baller 787s. They have the screens on the back of the seats and showed live TV.

Like others said, it depends on luck of the draw with the plane. I have streamed games on both United and American Airlines planes. I have been unable to stream on both. I fly about 10 round trips per year evenly split between the 2. I have YouTube TV and attempt to stream on every flight. I can stream about 80% of the time domestically. 30% international.

How much did it cost?
My total trip had three flights and two layovers, i only purchased it for the longest leg which was 14 hours and i think i paid like $25 usd (?) It’s been about 6 months ago though so i could be misremembering , definitely not over $30 though or my cheap arse wouldnt have paid for it .

I streamed college game day and some of the Ohio State/Texas game this weekend on a 4 hour domestic united flight. Paid $8 for their WiFi and used my directTV stream. Worked like a charm.

No response, baw?! I’m on that princess royal cruise same dates. Let’s grab a bud light and continue watching Bama dynasty doom spiral.

Princess leaving out of Whittier Saturday at 8pm. Whittier to Vancouver. Is that the one you are on. I know Princess had another cruise that leaves out same day but goes from Seattle to Juneau and back to Seattle. We originally were doing that one but decided to do the other so we could fly into Anchorage a couple days early and go up to Fairbanks to see the northern lights.
If we are in same cruise, we should try and meet up Saturday night if they are showing the Tech game somewhere in the ship. If it’s even being televised.

Lol, I can relate. I am about to fly to Japan, so I was curious. Was the "wifi" good enough to doom scroll on social media at least? That is a great way to intermittently kill some time.
I am going to bring my Nintendo switch, and download some stuff from streaming services, too. I also made a movie list to look through their catalogue on their seatback screen. I paid $80 for a window seat otw there (12 hrs), but only middle seats available for my economy basic arse flight otw back. I just recall flying back prior from another location and thinking, yeah... I would pay $100 right now not to feel this way.

I take it that you didn’t get the reference.

I hope you have better luck than we did. We drove all the way up to arctic circle two weeks ago and it was cloudy and rainy the whole time. We did catch some Auroras two nights ago. Funny part is you could only see the colors through phone camera. To the eye it was like fog on the horizon yet the skies were clear.
Just got off Zaandam this morning. If you purchased bear watching tour in Ketchikan cancel trip now it was absolutely terrible and complete waste of time and money.
I highly recommend Harv and Marv small boat whale watching tour in Juneau followed by crabs at Tracy's I was delightfully surprised about how good and full the Dungeness crabs were!
In Skagway I highly recommend diving up Yukon Highway with a DIY Jeep Tour. That drive was incredible we spent about 10 hours going up and down the highway and made several stops that you wouldn't be able to do on bus or train. That drive is absolutely incredible.
I didn't have success watching LSU/Clemson but didn't care since we were on the Yukon Hwy at the time. I was able to stream highlights from Youtube later that evening, Cruise ship had ESPN live but not ABC. Watching live TV was hit or miss from our room!
I ran into a handful of Tiger fans in skagway on Sat!

My best suggestion, and it might seem obvious, but it was not obvious to me since I am not a huge podcast guy… but I downloaded a bunch of podcasts about various subjects, some comedy type podcasts for if I was in a good mood, and some true crime type stuff in case I was tired and dragging arse haha.. listening to those podcasts made 14 hours sitting in an economy class seat, slightly more bearable… But the best thing you can do is just pop some Benadryl or an Ambien and try to crash out for half the flight if you can .

Thanks for the tips. How close were you to any whales you saw on the small boat tour in Juneau?
In Ketchikan we are doing some kind of guided zodiac tour along the coastline.
In Skagway, wife was pretty adamant about doing the train. May have to see what she thinks about the DIY jeep. That sounds much more to my liking.
In Juneau we were doing a helicopter tour over the glaciers followed by dog sledding but the sledding part was canceled on us. Still doing the helicopter tour. Will have to check out Traci’s for the crab.
Arriving in Anchorage a day early so we can do a guided northern light tour. Hope we have luck as that is actually the main thing my wife wants to see. Weather forecast is not looking not favorable though.
Hoping for a good trip. This was one of the top bucket list trips my wife wanted. I would have preferred laying up on a beach in Turks and Caicos or Bahamas but happy wife happy life…LOL

A couple of times we were within a 100 yards but this was not by design by the guide. The guides prefer to be 200 to 300 yards away to not stress them while they are eating. We just got lucky that the whale surfaced next to us. Seeing the whales is fun but honestly you will most likely only see portions of their body and their tail which is how they identify and name the whales. The scenery on the boat ride is absolutely incredible!
The tour is very similar to spec fishing at grand isle a bunch of boats piled up in an area where the "fish" are and of course watching the seagulls dive at baitfish letting you know where the whale will likely surface next!
On our particular tour there were two whales feeding via a bubbling technique. One of the whales name is Kelp. He put on a show right next to the larger boat which had about 50 people on a balcony. We were about 200 yards away at that point. We also saw sea lions hanging out on a bouy. We probably saw five maybe six different whales that day.
You will also see whales from the ship but then you will typically just see their spouts. However, yesterday, we had an Orca swim about 100 yards along side the ship jumping out of the water for about 2-3 minutes straight. He stayed what appeared to be directly below our balcony the whole time. From the balcony he appeared to be about as big as a dolphin not a whale. It was pretty cool.

Problem with bus and trains is your herded around like cattle in large groups. The busses will stop occasionally but with the jeep you get to stop when you want and as often as you want. Plus you get to go and check out Emerald Lake. We found a couple trails and did a small hike around a portion of the lake. My wife hates long drives and being in a car all day and she loved this trip making me stop every 10 minutes or so to take pictures!
We left around 9:00 that morning and returned the vehicle around 6:00 that evening. The first stop on the DIY tour is a cemetery which is pretty neat to see old graves from the gold rush days. There's also a trail that leads to a pretty cool waterfall around 209 foot drop. I think its called Ried Falls.

I thought about doing this tour but picked the bear tour instead. I look forward to hearing about your experience next week.
Does your ship go through Glacier Bay? If so you are in for a treat! Glacier Bay and driving the Klondike Hwy was 1a and 1b for the highlights of our trip! Driving up the Dalton Highway and staying two days in arctic circle was great as well.

Will definitely get back to you when we get back. Think I’m going to push the wife again about canceling the train excursion and doing the jeep. Sucks that we were originally cruising out of Seattle and had a balcony room. We decided to switch to cruise out of Anchorage so we could go early and head north a bit and see sights and hopefully the Aurora Borealis. Unfortunately all the balcony rooms were already taken when we switched. Pretty bummed about that but think we will still have a great trip. Again, thanks for the feedback.

The DirecTV Live TV channel lineup is significantly limited. If you get lucky, you'll get one of the planes with Starlink which would allow you to stream.

Also, if you have T-Mobile, your wifi is free on United and American.
I was on Radiance of the Seas in June from Vancouver to Seward. Then spent 1 night in Anchorage and two in Denali before flying home.
My United flight from IAH to Vancouver was actually Air Canada (737-MAX 8) and was able to stream live TV. Coming home was a new United 737-MAX 8 nonstop from Anchorage to IAH. Streaming was good too and I was able to connect my headphones to the seat back tv wirelessly when I wasn't watching my phone.
That flight home is too far in a 737... cramped and only one aisle, so difficult to get up and walk around. At least we left ANC at 1045pm and landed in Houston at 8:30am so I slept a lot of the flight.

Totally forgot to report back.
Northern Light Excursion out of Anchorage was cancelled due to cloud coverage. Sucks because we switched cruises and lost our balcony room for nothing.
Skagway- did the train. It was nice. Very scenic. Really wished we had done what y’all did but wife was adamant about riding the train. She loved it and was happy. Happy wife happy life…LOL
JUNEAU- Out helicopter sightseeing/glacier walk about was canceled due to rain and cloud coverage. Booked a whale watching tour and struck gold. Was expecting to maybe see a couple humps blowing a hopefully a tail or two. What we got was a mother and calf and they both kept repeatedly full body breaching. They did this for about 10 minutes. Then we moved on and came across another set and they were doing the same thing. The naturalist on our boat was going just as crazy as all the tourists. She said that even though the calves would occasionally fully leap out of the water it was rare for an adult. And we had two sets do it over and over again. It was pretty neat. Then we went to Mendenhall and made the hike to Nugget Falls.
Ketchikan- did the Zodiac/ wilderness adventure. I really enjoyed it. Short hike thru a portion of rain forest up to a closed salmon cannery converted to museum. Took a tour then they loaded each couple into their own rigid bottom inflatable zodiac. We folllowed the guide all around George’s Inlet and saw eagles and had huge sea lion swim right up to our boat. He poked his head up and just watched us for a minute and swam off.DIDNT see any bears though. Guide said if it were summer we likely would have seen orcas coming into inlet to feat on salmon spawning. When we got back to cannery we were treated to snacks and locally brewed craft beers.
Enjoyed the ship. Ate way too much food and wife got pretty drunk every night which was good for me ..LOL. Saw some good musicians and shows. Was disappointed in how touristy all the towns were. Nothing but t shirt shops and jewelry stores. Alaska itself was beautiful and overall I’m glad we went. Will go back again and not do a cruise. Will spend time in seeing the interior.
