From one of those podunk, speed trap towns?
---no, unless you're the sheriff's nephew.

No, no one ever has.

If you have a decent driving record it’s easy.

I haven't gotten a ticket in over 20 years. Cruise control was set to 55, speed limit dropped the 45 and the cop was sitting right there clocked me said I was doing 59.

Anyone got advice about the change to non-moving violation? Went home and got ticket in speed zone that wasn’t there a year ago. I don’t mind paying, just would prefer insurance to not change.

Pay a lawyer $300.

People rightfully bitch about Baton Rouge, but one great thing about BR is the cops are too busy to worry about speeders. I see traffic enforcement maybe once per month in this city.

get your court date delayed. Cop usually doesn't show up.

that's one way, but if you've got a good record you can call up the DA's office and ask what you can do to reduce it to a non-moving, it's still going to involve paying but it doesn't go on your record, worth it for peace of mind but if you've got a clean record, one speeding ticket isn't going to have an affect on your insurance

Speaking of speed traps, remember these words, and you will remember me: St. Charles, Arkansas.

A town of 230 people, plus a pig.

When the speed limit drops to 35, it means 35... immediately.

Not 36, 35.

Immediately.

From one of those podunk, speed trap towns?

Yes.

Coming off of Hwy. 36 into Abita I was doing 60 in a 45. The Abita cop pulled me over. It was like 2 am. He apparently didn't have his radar on but "knew" I was speeding but did not know how fast I was going. He stopped me probably looking to see if I was drinking and driving. I wasn't drunk.

He still wrote me a ticket and on the ticket he wrote "general speeding ticket".

I was like "WTF". I guess he needed probable cause to pull me over and had to write something.

A couple of months later I showed up to "court" plead not guilty and the cop "took the stand". (Putting these words in quotes because it was so informal.) The cop looked at me and said, "you were the guy on that red motorcycle, huh?" I replied, "no, I was the guy in the red Honda Prelude. I have the car parked right outside."

The judge dismissed the case.

Yep. Was pulled over in Jonesboro, LA late at night. Didn't see the speed limit change.

I called their city hall later and asked if I could get the ticket reduced. They said to send a letter to the judge. I did and told him I hadn't traveled that road ever before (which was true) and was going the speed limit before the speed limit change (speed trap). The judge dismissed the ticket. Don't know if I was lucky, but it can't hurt to try.

I paid an attorney that actually reached out to me 50 bucks and he took care of it.

I also one time got a ticket and I called about it and they couldn't find the ticket and then 6 months later I get some kind of court subpoena. Basically the ticket had been booked as a non-moving violation and then immediately sold to a collection agency. Almost like a fricken mortgage. There is some shady shite that goes down in rural Mississippi. I finally just paid the damn thing. I don't go through that area of Mississippi anymore. (Just outside Grenada). F Mississippi. Cept starkvegas

Cop pulled me over on Main Street said I was going 65, lying bastard I haven’t had a speeding ticket in 15 years . DA didn’t want to hear about it , pay the ticket .

Yes. Cop pulled me over in an 18 wheeler. Speedometer did not work correctly so I wasn't sure how fast I was going but there were people passing me on the four lane so I assumed I was within an acceptable range. When I asked how fast I was going, cop said "I don't know because I didn't have my radar on but I know you were speeding" Hired lawyer and it all went away.

Every time I showed up to court in Louisiana the DA pled it down to a non moving violation that was like $20. It was like they reward you just for showing up. Happened to me like 4 times when living there.

Yes, I ripped up a speeding ticket immediately after receiving it.

I would say I won that fight. The poor paper ticket didn't stand a chance, but I was worried about getting a paper cut.
