Has anyone ever asked to see the paperwork to back up a handicap tag?

Especially in Baton Rouge I’ve noticed a large amount of seemingly healthy people with handicapped tags. They can often be seen hanging out in Walmart in the handicapped parking spots. I have gotten out of my car and came back and they are still just sitting there. This takes up spots for people who are actually handicapped. Often times these people are extremely over weights and terrible drivers. Has anyone had any success listing these people? Where do they get these tags from? Do they just know how to work the system? Do they have a cousin that makes them?

Once you get one, you have it for life no matter what the reason was you got it.

I had to get a handicapped tag because I had to used crutches for a couple weeks after knee surgery. The lady at the DMV gave me one for that was valid for two years and I got one of those RFID wands to use on campus at LSU. It was glorious.

Nah. Not all handicaps are visible or immediately noticeable and that has too much potential to make me a meme if I'm wrong these days.

Most of them are mentally handicapped.

Not every handicap has a visible issue associated with it. But generally yes, the privilege is abused.

My grandfather has one and at a glance he seems perfectly fine, but he has extremely low blood pressure and gets dizzy and tires really easily. Especially in this heat. If he walks more than about 50 yards outside, he looks and sounds like he’s about to just pass out. So it isn’t always an outward appearing disability.

Are they seemingly healthy or extremely overweight?

If you're on the heart transplant list, you may not be huge, but you can't walk very far. Have some chemo and see if you don't experience some fatigue. Same with COPD, emphysema and about a couple of hundred other medical issues.

Since you like to make medical diagnoses from afar, here's one for you ...
You're an a-hole who worries about small things that have little or no effect on your life, while completely overlooking significant matters that do have an effect. Adjust your focus. You'll be happier in the long run.

HC tags are abused. In some areas of the city I swear about 30% of vehicles have a tag. And the people are able bodied enough to hop out and stroll inside. And then I’ll see a lifted truck with a tag. A truck that a truly handicapped person wouldn’t be climbing into.

I wouldn’t worry about such things if I didn’t have a wheelchair bound child that actually needs the HC spot.

This. Family member is going for it once or twice a month. A week or two of not being noticeable followed by a week of hell.
