I couldn't bring myself to go....I went to the OKC site about a year or so after it happened and remember how awful it was to be there. I don't know if I could have handled that.

I remember the day well and visited ground zero a few months after it happened. That was enough.

The most heartbreaking part of it was watching the video of the jumpers. I lost it when someone described the lady who took off her heels, stood on the ledge, held her skirt down and jumped. They touched on how she was making a decision to end her life while still being modest and holding down her skirt. Lost it.

If I ever have a chance to go to NYC, this will be a must see for me... not sure how I will handle it though... I still get emotional about the picture in the USA Today the day after showing people hanging out the windows above where the plane hit.... a very disturbing image....,

At the end there is a quote either on the wall or being played over the speaker of one of the victim's wife saying how she didn't want the day to end because it was the last day she had with her husband, it legit made me tear up.

It is a great, but tough, experience. The videos are well made and worth the 30 minutes or so to watch.

I went about 8yrs ago when it was still in the old location across the street......next to the firehouse if I recall correctly.

The new observatory at the top of one world trade is bad arse also.

Bring a box of tissues if you see the museum with a first responder.

I went in 2011 with my dad, who was a firefighter for the city of Houston for 40 years. To this day it's the only time I've seen him cry. Then, as we were walking by the station close to the museum, the crew recognized his HFD shirt, and so we got to talk with them for a couple hours while they traded war stories from all their service. Talk about an emotional day.

Had a somewhat similar experience in 2001. Went to NYC that august, and passed by the WTC in a cab to show someone who hadn't been to the city before. We almost went up to windows on the world for a drink.

After 9/11, the other person was very disappointed we never went, as there would never be another chance to see the great buildings. I was relieved. It would have bothered me to no end wondering about the people we might've met working there during our visit. Did they survive, were they victims, etc.

Sad day. I remember too well. Remember my mom telling me, "They can't rescue the expel and they are jumping to their deaths." There is some very sad video of jumpers on the net.

deleted.

I didn't mean to derail the thread. My visit to the museum led to lots of research about the victims. One that touched me the most was a lady who had been a foster parent for years and was in the process of adopting a little boy. She died in the crash in the PA field that day.
The museum does a good job of telling the victims' stories.

I'm still really confused about why WTC 7 fell.

The side facing the Twin Towers was completely engulfed in flames, which eventually weakened the structure enough for it to go:

Do you exit through the gift shop? Do they have Twin Tower fidget spinners by chance?

Reading that made me think of The Alamo. You are walking through doors and looking at walls with musket holes in them. 200+ (I believe) men were essentially over run and slaughtered. They have a sign saying "take of your hats. Men died here." And not 20 feet away are coffee mugs and coonskin hats and fake Bowie knives. It is odd.

Probably 150 years or more, they'll have a gift shop. I'd love to see it if I'm in NYC.

What do you mean 150 years or more? The 9/11 museum does have a gift shop already.
They have a pretty big variety of things with different symbols and images.
I bought a few items but wasn't really up for shopping after the museum experience.

the one by the monument or the one near the Meat packing Disttrict(I think) ran by a photographer?

I went to the one ran by the photographer, which reminded me of the DDay museum in that everything in the display was tied to somebody (donations or from the founder himself while at GZ). It was small but big enough if that makes sense.

ETA its called the Ground Zero Museum Workshop
