Saying some sort of levee breach South of Houston. Columbia Lake in Brazoria County.
Anyone have knowledge of what kind of levee? How bad?

Just heard they are pushing back the anticipated cresting of the Brazos to some time Thursday. This is terrible news.

Yep, I think a lot of people in the BR area finally calmed down with that crap after last August.
I rented a U-Haul on Thursday night before the floods last year and was planning to go down Friday morning first thing to get my parents stuff out based on data showing river getting to them on Saturday evening. All hell broke loose and a ton of more rain fell Thursday night and water came rushing into their house at 7:30 the next morning. No way to have been ready that fast.
There were some evacuation shelter places on the eastern side of Denham, etc that had to be evacuated because they ended up getting flooded and nobody thought that would happen.
I know of several people that were rescued once, then had to be rescued again from second homes because they thought that had moved to secure places in the area.
Of course Nola could have handled things differently, as could have Houston, but in the heat of the battle with things going to hell, mistakes and bad presumptions will be made.

I've got a strong suspicion it's a levee that was over topped, not a levee failure, but I'm trying to find out more.

Apparently the levee at Columbia Lakes has been breached and they're telling everyone in Brazoria County to GET OUT NOW per CNN and KHOU twitter.
Think they said it was a mandatory evac a day or two ago so I'm hoping no one is there.

There isn't a set plan for when things like this happen.
If people are bitching that means they are safe and healthy. The fact that you see them on tv or hear from them means someone has them on a list to receive more assistance as resources and time allows.
This is massive on a scale no one would have ever dreamed up. Knowing where the resources are and using them in the proper places IS the plan in a situation such as this.
Please don't be judgemental until you have been a part of something similar.
Just so you know, this is coming from someone that has been on scene commander at emergencies (obviously) smaller than this. Controlling the situation is difficult at best. Preparing for every possible emergency is impossible.

sun is out in BR area. Wish I could say the same for the Houston area. Many prayers being sent over there.
