I'm no expert in the matter but think the Astrodome has safety and environmental issues that would prevent it from being used in any capacity at the moment.

NRG wouldn't be used either as there are many other options around the city (as mentioned earlier).

Nope. That would be the people talking about skullfricking and refugees in NRG.

do you blame people from around the BR area being hyper-vigilant when it comes to a potential monster of a rain maker storm? I seem to remember something happening right around this time last year...so yeah a lot of that is still fresh in our minds.

It's more likely that storms will not resemble the August flood of last year rather than the other way around.

You can not be further from the truth. These models are projecting (on a consistent basis) 20", to 30", to even as high as 50" of rain in some areas of Texas. The highest total from last August was 30". This has the potential to be much, much worse for Texas than August was for SELA. Those poor people there need to take this just as seriously as a category 5 hurricane because if those rain totals are verified, this will be just as catastrophic as a cat. 5.

I think they're just saying that (as of right now) there's no way Houston doesn't flood.

Ike was like a Cat 2 or Cat 3 hurricane with a 20+ ft storm surge, 100+ mph winds and 20+ inches of rain and I don't think there was a central "refugee" area. Houston is too spread out for that to even be effective I would think. FEMA set up trailers and centers at different parts of the metro area and down by the coast for folks

You know, thank god that judge stopped the homeless camps from being removed in Houston. Maybe the problem will just fixed itself.

All scare tactics to make us prepare for a storm. Yes it will rain. Yes the wind will blow. No it will not be the epic 1000 year flood. The sky is falling the sky is falling.

Because we just had one last year and the sky fell for 3 days straight?

No but I had to last August so excuse me for being a bit fricking sensitive toward this potential for the Texan people and even for us, down the line. Stop being a fricking dick. This thread is to discuss the weather situation and it's affects on the people living in its path. That's what we're doing. If you don't like the discussion taking place here then you can get the frick out. Otherwise leave your smartass comments to yourself.

Mark my words and remember this post. Louisiana will not have all this crazy flooding 12+" that is being perpetuated on these inaccurate forecasts.
