yes the city rented some large 2MEG generators....however, the size pumps they need in order to be effective, are not the size pumps that you rent.....

91, how south of Lafayette are you?

Perry technically. Rita had water pushed towards us but nothing in the house but you could see the grass, etc that it washed up. Can't remember if Lily or Rita gave us the new roof. We're about 5-10 miles from Intracoastal.

Can't move it up and also I hate to leave my recently widowed mother to deal with it alone so I am just going to wait however long I need to.

Understandable. Rescheduling for anything earlier than Thursday/Friday is a risky proposition at this point. The Euro gets it out of here much quicker, but the GFS has it hanging around for another day and half longer.

980 mb? That's probably a weak cat 1 or a tropical storm. Not exactly something we can't handle

Don't focus on the pressure/wind. Look where the rain is falling from now through it moving out. We're gonna be dealing with rain from when it's still in Texas.

Anyone have rain forecast if these newer tracks hold? How many inches is New Orleans looking to get?

Thats roughly 24 hours after it comes on shore.

This is what it looks like on the Euro right before it makes landfall:

Damn. OK

Wonder if the condo place will give me a week credit on my rental that was supposed to start Saturday.

We rent a lot of equipment from rental companies in my role at work. A sales rep for one of the big rental companies in our area told me last week one of his counterparts is staged in New Orleans renting the city a bunch of large generators for the pumps that were down due to power issues. Not sure if they're renting them the pumps as well but I'm pretty sure they're at least providing power to the pumps that had power issues.

And those generators, which I'm certain are not cheap, would be unnecessary if this incompetent Mayor and his administration were doing their job. It's not enough to put a band-aid on the situation now.

Mitch loves to say the past few weeks that we're "...in a vulnerable position." Yet I haven't heard him say we're in this mess solely because he's literally not competent enough to hold this office.

frick Mitch and frick his entire incompetent administration.

We can handle some rain. Some clown said the whole state would have to evacuate.

Thanks I ask because I was confused by the people saying 20 times Katrina didn't follow the information in the maps I was looking at.

No one can know that at this point.

The trend may be for the storm to eventually head east into Louisiana; but after having spent a week in Texas buffeting around the stationary front, no model would be very accurate regarding exact timing, strength or rainfall totals when it did move east into LA.

To reiterate how shitty the 12z Euro is for TX/LA, it has 40.7 inches of rain in Port Lavaca:

We just go to back from there. Pulling up website to possibly book again beginning next week through Labor Day. Not sitting it out in BR (where we already flooded) with a wild child and infant, possibly trapped by water, without power. Wild child asked to go back to the beach as soon as we got home the other day. Maybe he'll get his wish.

That's just with it on the TX coast. Could get a lot more rain if this thing makes its way back to LA

you cant rent pumps that can do this....

quote:

Pump water out of the city at a rate of more than 45,000 cubic feet (1,300 m3) per second. The capacity is also frequently described as 1 inch (2.5 cm) in the first hour of rainfall followed by 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) per hour afterward.

Nice catch. The Euro rainfall totals aren't available to average Joes, so you've got to find them on Twitter or somewhere else.
