Harrah’s will manage the New Orleans casino until 2054, in exchange for adding new restaurants, a second hotel and more entertainment space. Meanwhile, the state will get millions more dollars from the contractual arrangement than it receives today.

I remember when Harrah's first opened, and they were forbidden to have a hotel and any real restaurants or musical clubs. Everyone was sooo afraid that if Harrah's was allowed to have these, then it would hurt the local tourism economy.

Crazy how times change. Over time, people realized the restrictions were stupid and were loosened/removed. And now, Harrah's is getting rewarded for more hotel/dining/music space.

They had little to do with not getting legalize gambling. Yes, some were against it, but it was John Georges and his video poker monopoly in the state that influenced votes

Harrah's shouldn't be the only organization in NOLA allowed to have a casino.

He's a big operator, but doesn't come close to a "monopoly."

Mississippi says thank you, Louisiana.

Only one casino in New Orleans? Thank you very much.

There's only 5 members of said committee from North LA. Even if all voted against and you take their votes out, the vote is 9-6 against.

What a dumb post.

100% agree.

We should build a gaming strip.

And legalize marijuana within city limits.

Vice City baby.

Self inflicted wounds, similar to the riverboat requirement.

They should lift all the restrictions and let them build real casinos. It’s a fricking joke. These little boats are fully staffed with crews, captains, etc, and don’t go anywhere.

It severely hurts their competitiveness.

He's protecting his business side and trying to get a slice of the pie. Harrah's will eventually have sports gambling but not until we get the frauds out of LA politics who are receiving benefits.

TH03's post clearly shows it wasn't just N LA that was involved. You has reps from the around the state including the main culprit Cameron Henry right here in Metairie/Nola

The amendment to allow for betting at video poker locations made many of those in favor of sports betting vote against it. The vote tally isn't a true list of who is against betting.

But amendments don't come out of nowhere... they have to be approved to be added to the bill. If all these reps truly wanted sports betting, they would have voted down the amendment.

That's exactly what happen at the House committee on the 22nd. Someone tried to add the amendments and they were voted on shot down then.

There was no objections to yesterday's addition which spoke a lot

Exactly, which is why I'm not buying the "oh we want it, but it was too loaded down" argument. You shitheads are the reason it was loaded down. Not only did these clowns cause this, but since it was added without objection, there was no vote taken (If I'm understanding this correctly).

because of that, everyone who voted against it shares equally in the blame.

If I'm recalling correctly, the building was originally split amongst 4 operators and they each had to re-bid on their piece of the whole periodically.

Edit: The 4-operator scheme was an original proposition that never materialized. But the original operator was Harrah's Jazz, which was a joint effort between Harrah's and part of Caesar's.
