I went on a deep dive of tour groups led by former VC and NVA soldiers who are all seniors now that specialize in taking Vietnam veterans on tours of old battle zones. Seems odd people would want to rehash that but it's popular.
When asked they would say "we were soldiers, we fought a war. We didn't know why. We only want to be friends now" everything I've seen from Vietnam over the last few decades shows they are on Team America more so than many other countries in that area.

If a person hates Jane Fonda then they should absolutely be ready to crucify Lyndon Johnson for his policies and rules of engagement regarding Vietnam.
If you haven't watched Ken Burns series on Vietnam you should. That was just about the most fricked up situation and fricked over group of people (the Vietnamese) possible from beginning to end.

White House communications director Dan Bartlett and others, who called the charge election-year propaganda, noted that Bush was honorably discharged and that no AWOL charge had ever been made against Bush by the National Guard.
Released military records show that Bush's documented service record through mid-April 1972 (Bush drilled on the 15th and 16th of that month) was without gaps; the period in question is from May 1972 forward.

They are going to torture him and somehow he gets really lucky and some paperwork gets mixed up and he is released. He comes back to the US and ask about his experience "North Vietnam has some good people, best in the world. They told me I was the best POW they ever captured. I talked with a few of there leaders and I am being told the war will not be any longer than 2 more months. 1968 is the best year this country ever had".
