I hate that homelessness exists. I think everyone deserves a place to lay their head down at night.

I also hate that you can't help the ones who actually are down on their luck people because 95% of them are drug addicts, crackpots, or both who will never get better, nor even try to. I hate that they make our cities unsafe and dirty.

You telling me they can't work some of these jobs that illegals do right now? Come on.

This has nothing to do with the homeless. This is about expanding the ghetto into downtown. Why the frick would they want to do that?

The ghetto is the inexorable cancer that gobbles up all. When you apartments going up—and they’re fricking always going up—that’s the cue to move. And then, 20 years later, you’ll have to move again bc the ghetto will find you. The ghetto never stops.

It's one way to make huge profits on real estate that's not being used.

People can profit from affordable housing primarily through government incentives like tax credits, which are awarded to developers who build affordable housing units, allowing them to sell these credits to investors for a profit, while still generating rental income from the housing units themselves; essentially, they make money by building affordable housing while receiving tax benefits from the government for doing so

The plan is to redevelop the State National Life building at 263 Third St. and a connecting building at 224 Florida. Cohen said he has been approved for $19.5 million in multifamily housing revenue bonds, the Baton Rouge Mayor’s Office of Community Development has awarded him up to $2 million and he’s trying to line up $7 million to $10 million in historic tax credits.

Has there been one example of section 8 housing that didn’t bring down the quality of life around the area?

This is anecdotal but I remember when the apartments on coursey & hickory ridge became section 8 and suddenly you won’t catch me at the Tiger Paw after dark.

It will be like the Fairmont in downtown Shreveport - a magnet for the dregs of society.

Why not develop one of the many empty buildings along Florida Blvd.
Lots of big buildings with plenty parking spaces.

I remember a decade ago when I lived out there how much fun third Street had become. Nice to see BR fricking up a good thing.

Kip had it going full steam in the right direction. The streetcar connecting downtown and LSU was going to be awesome AND COMPLETELY PAID FOR by the federal government.

It didn't help black people enough so Broome killed it.

Hopefully new mayor will do something to stop this. This will permanently make the area completely untenable for retail, restaurants, etc.

I've been in downtown BR. Isn't all that housing affordable enough? How much more affordable do you need than a burnt out two bedroom 900sq ft house built in 1930?

It's definitely not close to as affordable as subsidized affordable housing. Those units can be free.

If it is only going to be for those types of employees then yes I am for the affordable housing. However if the landlord wants full capacity because he is charging the government for each tenant the going rate of a "would be" apartment building in that area. You know he will try and get the occupancy to max and to do that he will bring in the "un-evictables."

But it shouldn’t. It’s walkable with lots of space for restaurants and stores. It should be better

Some real short-sighted racists in this thread.

Geez liberals are exhausting. Let me explain it in a way you can understand. Right next to your favorite vegan restaurant, gay bars, and BLM monument they are building a massive trailer park called Southern Heritage. Your favorite part of town will be ruined.

Race has nothing to do with it, the media has you programmed. Critical thinking is erased. Everything is racist because you can’t think for yourself.
