have a knee injury and am saving up sick leave to have surgery to fix it. I feel really bad about using my handicapped parking decal but keep telling myself that I won't have to use it for too much longer.
Not a thing wrong with legitimate uses. I would prefer cops sit in parking lots ticketing these offenses instead of speeding.

Did you consider their disability upstairs?

Majority of my observations seem to be abusing the system

Our hospital employee parking deck has a bunch of handicapped spaces.
I’ve seen 2 wheelchair bound employees.
Most people who park in those spaces are obese.
I’m more crippled than they are.

Pull guard on a 300 lb WIC recipient Snorlax with a fresh weave and you'll be on the receiving end of a Rampage Jackson style powerbomb. Bench press your way out of that.

My guess is that every judgmental know-it-all posting snide remarks about people using handicap parking tags are either jealous or clueless. My doc gave me a permit request when we scheduled my hip replacement surgery 8 weeks ago. The hip pain I was feeling before surgery was crippling since surgery less intense pain, but still limited in my mobility. I am hopeful things will improve enough for me to no longer need the permit. I don’t wish this level of pain on anyone.
Your guess would be wrong. Most of these people on this thread are upset that people that don't need the handicapped spots are taking up them away from people like you who need them

Bottom line people are lazy. There are people who actually need them, but what passes as "disabled" these days is laughable so as for as I am concerned, all I need is a place to park where my lift goes down. If I go to a grocery store for example, I rather park towards the back, I can get through the parking lot faster than most people, but if you park in a spot that has blue hash marks in the space thats for ramp vans, people don't pay attention to that shite. And to be fair there isn't much there to inform people that the spot is for ramp vans.
So honestly, if someone has to park there because they don't want to walk another what? 20 feet? They should feel bad for themselves. If you have to used one of those carts that is understandable, but if you can walk round the store to do your shopping then you shouldn't have a handicap parking tag, but between all the temporary disabled tags and the tags issued to people that fall in the gray area you just have to kind of figure out your own way of doing shite.

LOL you bet they are. And are abused by the people with tags more that ones without tags. The idiot who parks in a HC parking spot when the handicapped person is not in the vehicle is probably the worst offender bc they know the need to have that tag. DRs giving these tags like free trick or treat candy. In businesses you get to see that everyday. I'm not going to get into the demographics or whatever bc it's just going to piss people off.

By my own estimates, maybe 15%. I've seen young able bodied people hop out of nice cars and walk in without issue and my 81 year old dad who needs a shopping cart to hold himself upright refuses to use them so others will have them available.

Problem is you can't tell who is a apparently healthy person on the heart transplant list that gets winded walking the fifty feet to the door and who is a fat slob with a counterfeit hang tag or even a legit one that is being misused.

A shopping cart IS a walker substitute for us older folk.
The thresh hold test for handicapped spot utilization at HEB, is when you get 3 consecutive requests to assist getting your groceries to the car.
Challenging handicapped status can be a big disaster . Being handicapped is real and comes in many forms, not all of which require a cane or walker. The abusers know what they are doing and you are not going to correct s..itty people

All I know is it shows how fricking lazy people are when they use the handicap spot to drop their kids off at my kids daycare when every other spot is open.
Dunno what those POSs will do with the extra 18 feet of walking time they saved.

The new thing that annoys me are the people who pull up and park in front of the store by the entrance, disrupting the flow of traffic. At least the """handicap""" parkers get out of the damn way.

Honestly I equate people abusing handicap spaces with the further devolution of the human race. There's a few people to blame for it though. It's not just the people who park in them. It's also the stores who have virtue signaled by making 10-12 handicap spaces on the entire front row of the parking lot.
The entire concept is fricked up. In a perfect world, the cops would ask you about your hangtag, why you have it, where you got it, what you need it for. And if there isn't a valid reason for it, write you a ticket for $2000+.
