Wonder what happened here?

quote:

The Hammond Police chief is out and a search for a new chief is underway, according to a statement from the mayor. Hammond Mayor Pete Panepinto said he sat down with Police Chief James Stewart Thursday to discuss "changes in the department due to our philosophical differences."

"I had hoped for a smoother transition in leadership, but Chief Stewart has chosen to leave his position immediately," Panepinto said in a statement. It is not clear whether Stewart resigned or was fired.

The mayor is a good dude. I don't remember the details, but the Police Chief was getting pressure to step down for the past year - but it wasn't from the mayor.

Yes the purveyor of the Wed. $5 all you can drink. He's owned a number of bars and businesses since. I think he owns a few car washes now also.

He let a supervisor work his weekend shift after confessing he was a child molestor and had suicidal thoughts. That is one of the many issues as to why he was let go.

The car washes probably do more card business than cash. These are the type you wash own bugs, pay, drive through the wash and then dry and vacuum yourself.

. Yep, he owns or did own “Big Ben” across from Lowe’s. I knew him back in the day when he owned stray cats. Good dude as as I knew but Hammond is shady as hell. Always has been.

I knew Pete back in the mid-80s and he was a great guy. We had a lot of fun. He's always been an entrepreneur and has done well for himself.

I was visiting some friends in Hammond a year or two ago and his name came up. I asked if they knew what he was up to. When they told me he had been elected mayor, I thought they were fricking with me.
