It a unique way to measure it, but the decline of trick or treating would be a good proxy for the decline of a community.

It’s a community event, vs a family holiday.

Not sure where y’all live but I get the opposite feeling. I don’t recall every family in the universe going to pumpkin patches every weekend when I was growing up. I remember people getting pumpkins at the grocery store or local nursery and carving them a few days before. Maybe you feel that way because Halloween is by and large a holiday for children and you aren’t one anymore.

My hood didn't get the memo. Decorations everywhere and tons of trick or treaters.

I've found that the holiday has enjoyed a renaissance in the last decade or so.

I think the child element has decreased in many neighborhoods because of so few children and the transportation of "other" kids into "other" neighborhoods, but it has clearly increased as an adult party event.

Decorations aren’t around anymore because both spouses work and are too busy running kids to all the bullshite after school activities. I help my kids carve pumpkins but that’s the extent of decorating. Tick or treating is a lot of fun in my hood if the weather is right.

I plan on having the lights off and if any kids walk on my property, they're getting the hose turned on them.

Tell that to the white women in Target last night. The place was packed with people trying to buy last minute cheap costumes and candy.

Parents are too busy being selfish dressing like sluts for their adult Halloween parties instead of providing a great experience for the Braden and Kayden’s of the world

Halloween in the 80’s was badass because the 80’s themselves were badass.

My neighborhood gives it a good go, and does a damn good job, but you’ll never recreate the vibe of a different era.

Same here.

When I finally put Halloween stuff in the middle of October I was one of the last houses in my hood to do so.

But we live in a newer (2012) neighborhood that has a ton of younger family’s with parents in late 20s and 30s. With kids that are 1-10.

Halloween is a freaking blast. I have about 25 pounds of king sized candy bars to give out.
