But I do not understand celebrating other people losing their jobs.
If you view that their jobs were overpaid subsidies of Government spending paid for by National Debt, then I agree with them.
Everyone making >6 figures with bonuses on top...
I know you want to look at the individual, but it's hard to disassociate someone who's profiting from bad policy.
It's why the medical industry bothers me so much as well. >50% is paid for by National Debt, and they keep upping the price because it's free money. There's a reason all the medical schools, and nursing programs have wait-lists, because they make more money comparatively. Am I going to be sad for Dr's and Nurses if something befalls the medical industry where they aren't paid $300,000+ for administering anesthesia? not in the F'ing least.
So it's more about "how and why" these people are falling on hard times, and less about schadenfreude.

You have got to be one of the most obvious trolls on this site.

Not sure what you are referring.
Would you feel bad for Mississippi river boat captains if google made an App that could drive the boat? And there were no more $300k nepotistic free rides?

I can't believe you posted that.
I was just about to post he was a Rex alter.

So...no comment about the poor out of work river boat pilots? C'mon, they are use to making $300k/year....they deserve for it to continue!

My opinion and attitude changed after I pulled a hitch with one.
Do that, and then get back to me.
FYI, you have to be slightly athletic to do this, just so you know.

Piloting a river boat is super easy. Nothing special about it

Obviously Dick Chaney is to blame for this

so you are saying it takes $300k worth of skill?
Sorry, I never knew. I thought it was another supply constrained field that led to exorbitant wages.

Man this whole volatility thing is immensely blown out of proportion. It's been 30 YEARS since the 80's collapse. It's not like every 5 years we clean house.
People aren't paid more because the industry is volatile. They are paid more because they are willing to do shite you won't. Guys I know who pulled those ridiculous salaries lived away from their families for months at a time. And when they were on shore, they went into the office. They missed Christmas and their kids birthday because that's what the job required. They turned a wrench even though they got paid like a white collar lawyer. Guess what, they weren't all geniuses. I'd bet all of you would get hired before them, but you wouldn't apply because it wasn't worth it to you. What's funny is I don't think we've let any of those positions go. They are needed to make the money. The guys getting let go are the middlemen who don't reap the 200k salaries you boast about. And the managers who have engineering and business degrees who took a position at a bad time that is no longer considered "necessary". Lot of people qualified to take other jobs about to enter the hiring market. Not just Baws with truck nuts.

im not halliburton.
but I did lose my job via layoff today.
sad and angry for most of the day, I've had some time to collect my thoughts and reflect.
the hardest part was telling my wife.
