quote:

Brett Favre wants to end youth tackle football in the United States.

Favre, who sustained countless concussions in his 20-year NFL quarterbacking career, told the London Daily Mail that he wants his grandchildren to pursue golf and music rather than football.

Favre and retired athletes such as former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner and U.S. women's soccer star Abby Wambach are investors and spokespeople for Prevacus, a prescription drug designed to treat the long-term effects of concussions.

quote:

Favre is also supporting a proposed Illinois bill forbidding anyone under 12 from playing tackle football. The Dave Duerson Act to Prevent CTE, named after the former Chicago Bears safety who died by suicide after a lengthy battle with the disease, doesn't have the support to pass.

quote:

Favre thinks similar legislation should be a national law.

The idea of taking Bret Favre and his opinion seriously on anything off the football field is hilarious.

Why not tell them to focus on school and be doctors or engineers?

Where is this army of brain-addled zombies in American society from playing a couple years of tackle football? Wait, there isn't one. This overreaction is just another venue for virtue signalling.

I agree with Brett on this. Football is a blood sport.

Under twelve football is safer than cheerleading when you look at the injury statistics. Its only when the boys get bigger and faster in high school that concussions become somewhat more likely.

That's not saying much. Cheerleading is fricking dangerous. It's one of the most dangerous "sports" or activities out there. People don't realize how dangerous it is. My little cousin got a couple of concussions, one very serious one with possible long term ramifications, before they became convinced to take her out of it.

So it should be banned by law because every kid will get the same head trauma that guys who went on to college and played for 20 years in the NFL.

Maybe ban players coming back after they retire.

Why would anyone listen to any opinion someone with that many concussions has?
