Not anymore. Most male powerlifters over 40 are using a butt plug-like device when squating or dead lifting to reinforce the pelvic floor and help prevent prolapse in competitive events and personal maxes. Women are several times more likely to suffer either rectal or vaginal prolapse than men though and frequently wear compression under garments similar to a bench press shirt to aid against prolapse.

I applaud the effort, dedication and the time spent training, and hope he succeeds. But man, some things the human body just wasn't built to do naturally. I have the same opinion of bodybuilding competitions and other events that involve extreme prep and artificial enhancements.

Again I hope he succeeds and I admire the desire to go for it, consequences and side effects be dammed. I know I won't ever try to lift so much I need to wear a special suit to keep my internal organs from coming out of my arse.

Makes you wonder how strong people were in the past. That sword is 7 feet long and was actually used in battle

He had Bell's Palsy 3 or 4 years ago. It has gotten a whole lot better over time.

It's always "tomorrow" with these frickers. Here's a word to the wise, Hafþór, the fitness program that works is the one that starts TODAY.

That is what drives most of these guys; seeing what the human is ultimately capable of. I've gone back and forth on the use of steroids in strength sports, and if they were all just juicing and going out there trying to kill themselves, I would hate it. But, the top guys in the world, the top 50 or so strongest men on the planet, have top notch help. They have coaches, dietitians, therapists (physical and mental), and many have access to the best training and rehab in the world. At that level, every aspect of their lives is wrapped up in their sports. They have a narrow window to perform at their peak, and they have to be 100% dedicated.
With all the new attention, it is making it possible for some of these guys to actually make a living doing it.

He is attempting it, literally, tomorrow.

Eta: I still believe 2016 Eddie Hall is the strongest human male to ever live.

He has a good argument.
What gets lost in all the deadlift talk is his amazing overhead strength. Even Thor, who is the strongest in the world right now, cannot compete with Eddie's overhead, particularly the log and axle. Those are both "weaknesses" for Thor. And that is not even mentioning his squatting strength. Eddie said he has never maxed on squat, and just trains it a small amount. I can't recall when he was ever beaten in a squat comp.

All of that may be moot because Big Z would probably take the strongest ever title.

I can come close on his name, it's the letters and diacritical marks that mean I'll never write his name. Cut and paste, maybe.

At least he was born male (the son at the end tells us he is the son of Björns. If he has a sister, her last name will be (without the fancy letters and markings _____dottir which means she's the daughter of her mother.(I think that's right)

It will be telecast on ESPN today (Saturday) at noon EST or 11 a.m. Central if in the La. area like I am.

I'll give it a watch to see if the guy can do it, but his biggest obstacle will be his height. Being several inches taller than Eddie Hall, he'll have farther to lift that weight to make the lift count.

I'm interesting in seeing this. Eddie Hall burst all kinds of blood vessels in his nose and eyes and passed out from the pressure put on his body.

Basically, you're pretty crazy to even attempt it.

I've seen a number of u-tube videos of regular guys in the gym attempting to deadlift way more than they are capable of and many of them simply pass out as soon as they stand up.

And they are not trying to move anywhere near as much weight as this attempt.

Eddie Hall posted on Instagram a pic of him and Thor from years ago smiling and hugging with the caption that he hopes Thor "smashes" it.

I don't take it as a definite hat tip to being all about the hype, but it does show they were promoting things for sure. So many people have taken this shite seriously to the point of bickering like children.

They are evidently going to condense this down to 1 hour total for ESPN to air live.
The original plan was to weigh every plate live to prove they are calibrated. Thor is supposed to make 4 lifts, with 501 being the third lift. They are going to struggle to fit this in an hour w/ rest periods and promo stuff.
Will be interesting how they handle it.

I also saw on the ESPN guide that they will be showing a Jelle's Marble Run event. I hope they keep this up post-corona.
