This is badass. Thanks for sharing.
Recently got a hold of a WW2 era, never rebuilt, Ithica m1911 used in deployment in Japan - 2nd battle of Guam. Full patina and never been cleaned to anyone's knowledge.
Once I get it ready I'll try to remember to post pics.

Nice pics. It looks like your grandfather and my step-dad ate some of the same dirt.
Seriously if you come across any pictures with a stocky, hard locking mfer in k-9 with a really good looking german shepherd let me know. It is likely my step-dad and his dog "Scout". The two of them developed a real reputation between Normandy and Berlin. As my step-dad says he enlisted because he took a load of pigs to town, sold them and then drank the money away. When he woke up he decided WWII was better than facing his dad back on the farm. Literally enlisted and left town over it.

Stuff like this is amazing. My grandfather has a pretty large collection of old photos and stuff from his time in the navy during the Korean War.
When my grandfather and great uncle got together at family events, it was always a treat listening to them reminisce about their days in the Navy together. They became good friends in the service and my grandfather's sister picked them up from the train station when they returned home. She ended up marrying her brother's new Navy friend and they picked up another you g woman who was walking down the road. That "hitchhiker" ended up being my grandmother when my grandfather married her a few months later.
I always loved listening to the stories like that. Especially as I got older and more interested in history.

If you have the envie to get this out to the world, you can create social media accounts for this stuff.
I would say the easiest would be an Instagram. I would venture to say that you'll have over 5,000 followers within a week if you post 1 item at a time with decent captions & tags/hashtags of relevance.
You will be amazed at the people who will come out of the woodwork to provide you more historical info & others who have direct connections to your relative & the posts/pictures/patches/etc.

My grandfather was in the marines in the pacific. He died when I was 6 and he had very little keepsakes when he died. My uncles ex wife (uncle died in 1975 grandfather died in 1983) took them for his only grandson at the time.
My cousin does in 1997 leaving me the only surviving grandchild but by then all my grandfathers guns and other keepsakes were long gone.
I do have a few pictures from the pacific, his whole battalion/platoon pic from Paris island, and the flag from his burial

Ah, it might have something to do with this. This pic might be of my great uncle who served on a destroyer in the Pacific.
