My ex-FIL was a Marine in Vietnam. When the large influx of Vietnamese started settling in St. Bernard Parish, it was really rough on him. I guess when you’ve spent months shooting and being shot at, it’s easy to have flashbacks.

30th Infantry Division patch on the corporal on the right. North Carolina Army National Guard

Yep, I've still got that patch in the display box along with the flag from his funeral, his medals and his sergeant stripes he earned before he was discharged at the end of the war.

Like I mentioned in my earlier post, he enlisted in Louisiana but, for some reason, was assigned to the 30th.

He trained at Camp Blanding in Starke, Fl., Camp Forrest in Tullahoma, TN and then was sent to Camp Roberts in California for specialized training in artillery while most of the rest of the division completed their training at Camp Atterbury in Indiana.

Their last stop was Boston before being deployed to England in 1944.

Cool stuff, I need to take some pictures of my grandfathers stuff from WW2 and Korea and post them in this thread. I don't have a clue what any of his patches or medals mean maybe you guys could help me out. He used to talk your ear off about how much he enjoyed WW2 because he was stationed in Hawaii post pearl harbor and Italy post invasion. Wouldn't talk about Korea though, apparently he went through some heavy shite there, wouldn't ever tell my dad any details or what not.
