When I worked in Midland, our meals were shite at the man camps. HEB was a godsend due to its great selection of pre made non processed dinners. That place was awesome. Beer was cheap too. Its the best grocery chain out there imo.

They have everything. From high-end dry aged meats to pop parts. Everything you could ever want, you will find in one trip.

It’s good enough that it’s a legitimate reason for a person to hesitate moving from Texas.

I still like HEB but it’s not what it used to be imo. I go for specific things and shop Central Market the same. CM is their upscale store that is present in metro areas of TX.

Aisles are wide and clean

You must be shopping in a rural Texas town, because there are constantly 50 people in each aisle in Houston HEBs within or near 610 loop. I probably have 10 people run into me each time I shop at HEB in Houston. San Felipe and Montrose one are atrociously packed. Everyone just rams as fast as they can. Zero respect for others. I always abide by car traffic laws in pushing my cart, i.e., always push your cart in right lane unless pulling up to product, if pull up to product then get your cart out of the middle of the aisle, the person going straight has right of way on main aisle, if you are turning onto an aisle then it must be clear, can't cut people off 2 ft to your left or right, main aisle has right of way over side aisles if two people are going straight and intersect each other. That should be an easy baseline for every shopper bc we all drive. But almost no person does this bc everyone is selfish as they feel less accountability because there are so many fricking people in HEB stores within/around 610.

I'd add prices too. Alberstons and Randalls are noticeably more expensive, and they wonder why they have 5% of the shoppers of HEB. Not joking either. Everytime I'm in an Albertson or Randalls, it's a ghost town. HEB is like a angry mob devouring each other in the aisles. 20:1 ratio of shoppers of HEB to Albertsons/Randalls. In Houston it's this way at least.

HEB is great, but Wegman’s beats them like a drum. To answer your question HEB’s in store brands are all solid. Their prepped foods!!!!! and customer service are far above Publix for comparison and Publix is pretty great! Rouse’s isn’t even on the radar. HEB central market stores, especially the flagship one in Houston are chef’s kiss.

Large aisle lanes. Helps to circumvent those that become delirious and lose spatial awareness while they produce shop.

While the aisles are wide, this doesn't stop them as there are easily 1,000 people in an urban Houston HEB at any day of the week around 6 PM.

The rear of the store is a major bottleneck

The entire store is a bottleneck at San Felipe location. It's gotten so popular that I can't shop without running into multiple people as everyone is on a frenzy it seems. Hundreds, maybe a thousand people in that store in afternoons.

Only thing I don’t like about H-E-B is it is always too damn crowded. Even with the wide aisles feel like there are oblivious people everywhere. If you are just running in for a couple of things it is a royal PITA.

Bingo, I feel very strongly about this. The others must live in Houston suburbs, but around or inside 610 loop, there are easily 1,000 people at store in afternoon. It drives me nuts as so many people that don't have the right of way just ram into me. Oblivious. Little old women that make me want to truck them.

Lights. Lay out. Cleanliness. Selection. There is nothing not to like. We don't have them near us, in fact I have never lived near one, but I have been to a few and it was always impressive. I wish they'd come to Georgia but if they expand they will probably become WalMart...

This. Seriously, it makes the experience much more tolerable. And lights. How grocery stores thought it a good idea to shop for groceries in a dark cave is beyond me. Not a grocery store but Home Depot has gotten so dark and the aisles are so jammed full of shite that it is downright hazardous to your health to push a cart full of 2X4s to the register.
