i assume Safeway is at the bottom? hate safeway but they dominate this area
I hated Safeway in Colorado. I avoided it as much as possible. King Soopers (Kroger owned) and sprouts were my that stores. Though I bought all my non perishables and meat at Costco.
Give me a Costco, and I can fill in the gaps at a shitty store like Safeway or Harps.

The new Kroger Marketplace stores are pretty awesome.

I'll stop at HEB sometimes. They are definitely the biggest and nicest around. But Kroger is across the street from HEB, is easier to get in and out of, and is slightly less expensive. Wife got attached to going there, so it's where we go. When we need something random, I do go to HEB as they have a better shot at having it

Never been in a Wegman's, huh?

Wife is from eastern PA, so I know how awesome a good Wegmans can be. The big one in Lansdale, PA is a great example. Living in SC for awhile now, I thought Publix and/or Wegmans (depending on the location) was the pinnacle. That was until the first Lowes (small chain based out of NC) in the midlands of SC opened a couple weeks ago.
When I walked in and the first thing I saw was a guy walking around with a fresh draft beer from their craft beer bar while doing his shopping, I knew I was someplace special. The overall selection & quality of normal "in the aisle" stuff surpasses Publix. Then you throw in the fact that Lowes has it's own sausage counter where they make like 20+ kinds of sausages in house, in addition to a kickass deli, a bakery to match Publix, which is something, and the best beer selection (including a full service bar with rotating taps of local/craft stuff, plus growlers) I've seen in a grocery store, the only answer is Lowes.

HEB and Fred are the only two things I miss about Katy

HEB is short for Hebrew?
Absolutely hilarious.

I live in Baton Rouge and Drive to Houston to buy groceries just because it is that much better!
Well not really but I do have family that lives in Katy and HEB is awesome especially their meat department.

Whenever I go to Waco I'll usually swing by HEB with my kid so she can restock her fridge on daddy's dime. I really like the store, good selections, real good meat dept., and even though it's packed the lines are never long because they actually use all their registers unlike Wally World.

Well, on Saturday, I'm making one stop to get my whiskey and meat to prepare for LSU baseball. Enjoy the extra stop.
If the extra stop happens to be specs, then most people will not mind. The by-product of Texas' liquor laws is that the Specs, Goody Goody and Total Wine thrive. All of which are awesome store in their own right.

Lowes was awesome!

One of the reasons I miss being in Austin.
Nothing like walking into a clean fully stocked, fully staffed store with folks who are happy to be working there.
I've never been to a store that comes close to the HEB off Far West in Austin.
I have no clue if it is still up to the level from when I lived in Austin, but I've never been to a store in New Orleans with remotely the same level of service, cleanliness and always stocked.

Houston is very big. There are going to be quite a few places where there's a Kroger right across from an HEB . I'm not close to there

One of the many things I miss about TX. HEB is a great shopping experience. Publix is pretty good too - though I have less experience with them. Louisiana has nothing comparable - Rouses is the best in Baton Rouge and it has a lllloooonnnnggg way to go to catch up with HEB.

Few things I miss about living in Georgia... one of them is Publix .
