The way I look at it in this situation...

I hope my donation says something about my character. If the person is scamming, that says a lot about theirs. But I don't think this is a scam.

So why is his GFM deleted? Without going back 40 pages do I need to cancel my contribution?

Me.

2012ish. Admins not only deleted your comments you were given a slap on the wrist.

At the time, I was a contract worker under Jindal and posted a piece of information only a few people had. Left it up for a bit. Then deleted it. You made a valiant effort of pinning said info to a name. And nearly succeeded in it being mine. Instead you got an assistant director of a state agency brought in for a review.

This baw is from Etowah County, and what seems like an extended family that doesn't have two nickles to rub together over a few generations. If he found a home, and some acceptance, on a website like this, it makes sense for him to reach out. There are a lot of folks here, and not a negligible amount of discretionary/charitable dollars around, so...why not?

I'm just trying to be a devil's advocate on the other side of this discussion. I don't know or believe one way or another.

My Grandpa is like that. I remember as kid coming back from an LSU game we stopped for gas and someone asked him for money for “food”. He offered to go in and buy the man a subway sandwich (gas station happened to have a subway). The man declined because he was clearly going to buy booze or cigs with it. So he said screw it and we left.

I guess I’m a little softer

I don’t carry cash often, but if I do, I don’t mind throwing someone a few bucks. If I can give a little for Karma, then I do it. What they do with the money is on them.

Same here, but on the other side.

If I’m wrong, I’ll live with it. I’ll wish the OP well either way.

I don't think that his GoFundMe has been deleted. I think that the owner of this site removed the link because the subject of the OP had not been verified through him or the admins of this site before posted onto the board.

A guy who's posted here for years and probably knows a few people IRL, it would be the dumbest of the dumb to bring a scam here. It's not like his life is secret now.

Lots of folks here have never been through tough times, and it shows.

Chicken removed it because it reached the goal

I removed the Go Fund me link...goal was reached. In general, I am not comfortable with go fund me's being posted when I can't verify their legitimacy...if this is a scam, let this be a lesson for those that fell for it. If it isn't a scam, then I am glad the users of TD were able to step up for a good cause. Regardless, I have said some prayers for CD and his family.

BUt in a thread where a guy is apparently mourning his dead wife, its tacky and shows a lack of class.

No offense but if I were mourning my wife that passed just 24 hours ago or less then posting on TD would be the last place I would be.

Also, begging for money, no matter the cause, is going to open you up to cynicism. Nothing tacky about it in today's world where you read about scams every day.

Not that it has anything to do with this, but just the other day I spoke to some people that were scammed out of $5K by storm chasers. The wife has cancer so they have medical bills on top of trying to rebuild from the storms yet this didn't matter to the storm chasers. Just saying the gullible get eaten by wolves all of the time so there is nothing wrong with questioning things.

It wasn't deleted. The link was removed because the goal had been met and I think the admins are a little nervous about GFMs to begin with.

The dude made one post. I don't think that's out of the question. We've had a lot of people lose loved ones and post here the next day, or shortly thereafter.

If you're looking for evil, you'll find it everywhere you look. In this case, I'll wait until evil is confirmed to pile on someone who may be in mourning.

At the moment, life is good for me, but I went a decade without saving as much for retirement as I should have. You think stout and agzwin would help a brother out?

He knows. He updated it through his wife's account and thanked people for donating.
