Not sure how old you are but as you get older you might actually figure out that some women don't believe that the latest sitcom should dictate the dynamics of their behavior as it relates to their spouse. Some women like being women and enjoy "taking care of" their men.

While I am fully capable and more than willing to place food on my own plate my wife rather enjoys it so I don't mind. She was raised on a farm and feels it's something she can do for me to show she cares.

As long as I don't piss her off, my wife always fixes my food for me.

I have a good woman. I don't ask or expect it. She does it because she wants to.

Sure the guy who makes his SO do it is a douche.

I would never want my SO do make my plate. I will always know how much I want.

If you're a man you don't need to be "taken care of"

Eta: if you're a man take care of her

This is the situation with my BIL. I have no problem at all if a wife enjoys fixing her husband's plate, but in the case with my BIL, my sister could be deathly ill and he would still expect her to come fix his plate..

Is there a more helpless, repressive, douchebag than this?

Yes, the guy who makes her plate.

I shake my glass to let her know it's time for a refill.

Yeah, someone who makes their wife's plate is a repressive douchebag. Awesome.

I feel it's part of the meal preparation.

Its not uncommon for whoever cooks in our house that night to fix the plates. It doesn't always happen that way, but it just seems like the natural way to do it.

Since my wife hasn't worked in the last 17 years (Her choice) she feels like I take care of her just fine. I guess "taking care of" means different things to different people. For me, it means providing support based on traditional gender roles. We each provide what is generally expected based on what your grandparents may have done, instead of the mixed gender roles that you seem to promote.

I'm Ok with you "taking care of" your wife by doing the things that would have traditionally been tasks undertaken by women. If it works for you, great.

If you're in a marriage or long term relationship, you should do things to take care of each other. For some this means she does things like fix his plate and he does things like change the oil in her car. Whatever the particular acts are, it's the fact you do things for her and she does things for you. In your way you take care of her, in her way she takes care of you.

Frankly, it's amazing some in here don't get this concept.

He sounds like an entitled prick. Behavior doesn't define the douchbaggery - it's the entitled motivation.

Just because I work all day doesn't mean I'm too good to come home and help with the kids, cooking, dishes, laundry, etc. Sounds like you need to get over yourself, or you're incredibly lazy.

And I could give a rat's arse about how my grandparents lived their lives. This is our family with our own lives.

Here's the thing, my grandparents weren't fricking lazy at all. My grandpa worked his arse off and came home and tended to a farm. They very much had rigid gender roles. I also know guys that come home and work around the house doing domestic chores because the wife is an entitled bitch and they're cowtowing to them. Also, know people in rigid gender roles that are entitled pricks and people that share domestic chores because it works.

The thing is judging people by their behavior doesn't define them as a good person. It's the motivation behind hit.

My SO lives to cook and she loves doing this for me. I don't insist.

But I do thank her profusely for it.
