If it's 8200 living, how is it heated/cooled with 3 AC units?

$1.47M.... with siding. Seriously?

Drove by a $25M home this morning with hardie board siding, it’s pretty standard depending on where you are in the country.

One $20 gallon of latex paint will cover roughly 400 sq/ft. That's 20 gallons of paint needed for an 8200 sq/ft house. That's $400 in paint. Give it all a 2nd coat, that's $800. So, the labor cost $85,200?

It’s not. It has two furnaces. That’s how it’s heated.

The three A/Cs are only A/Cs.

Idaho Falls is at 4,700 feet, one of his floors is a basement and the average relative humidity there is about 20%, three properly-sized A/Cs will handle the cooling it on the worst Summer days.

ETA: An average day in July or August there is High ~ 85°F, low ~48°F and humidity ~25%

How hard is your A/C going to have to work on those peak days?

PS: Sorry I was a jerk, still getting used to the name change. Mea culpa.

Let me know when he drops a video about the cost breakdown furnishing his home. Like he did this one for the build.

I love these caricature houses. Form follows function. And given we live in a clown world the function is obviously buffoonish.

I saw the the mention of the 2 furnaces, but missed the basement mention.

I did see some tall ceilings, but I'd be curious to see just how much space is heated/cooled

I also he assume he used foam insulation, but I didn't watch the video.

Yeah, that's 8200 under beam.

He's probably around 4700 heated and cooled space. And, he's not using foam.

So, 3 AC units could do it, around 10 ton total.

The older I get the more I think I'd like to live more in the country and in peace.

I don't think I'd want a house even half of that size. That's a hell of a lot to maintain. Id have to be rich enough to also pay for all of the maintenance and housekeeping

The great thing about these western locales - Idaho, Utah, Montana - is the entire state is essentially a national park.

Nice, unofficial extension of one’s yard, so to speak.

You aren't very good at math are you? Are they just painting the floors? Because that's the 8200 ft. The only problem here is that there are 9-10+ walls attached to the square footage.

Let's say there is one 15x15' bedroom. That bedroom takes up 225' feet of floor space or in this case ceiling space. But assuming 9' ceilings the walls account for 540 sq feet of surface area. So in just one 15x15' bedroom that's 765' Sq ft of surface area to be painted.

And good paint cost WAY more than $20 these days.

Here's what chatgpt had to say...

quote:

Floor area: 8,200 sq ft
Interior Wall Area (for 9' ceilings):

For 9' ceilings, the wall height will be 9'.

The wall area will be: Wall area = floor area × height × 2.5
( for both sides of the walls )
Wall area=floor area×height×2.5(for both sides of the walls)

Wall area=8,200sq ft×9' ×2.5=184,500sq ft

Total Paintable Area: Inside walls: 184,500 sq ft (with 9' ceilings)

Ceiling area: 8,200 sq ft

One side of exterior wall: 8,200 sq ft

Total area to be painted: 184,500 + 8,200 + 8,200 = 200,900 sq ft

Paint Calculation:One gallon covers about 350 sq ft per coat.

200,900/350 ˜ 574 gallons

Adjustments for two coats: For two coats: 574 × 2 = 1,148 gallons

Final Estimate For one coat: Approximately 574 gallons.
For two coats: Approximately 1,148 gallons.

This is the updated estimate for painting the inside walls, ceilings, and one side of the exterior with 9' ceilings.

If I won the lottery or some shite, I would build me about a 23,000 sq. ft. house in middle of nowhere Wyoming and just hunt and fish all day.
