That doesn’t sound like what one would normally consider as “revenue.”
I would say it is. The point I'm trying to make is LSU academics shouldn't need the athletic department. They bring in enough money to fund themselves and to invest in projects to better the University. They have obviously been doing a shitty job of it, but they should have plenty of money to sustain themselves, just like the AD should have plenty of money to sustain themselves.

: To show how greedy this is. Wisconsin athletics has a similar revenue to LSU ($143M to $145M), but they only gave around $10M to the academics side last year. LSU gave almost 5 times that
What? LSU gives about $10 mil/year

Between 2012 and 2017, LSU athletics contributed nearly $50 million to the university under this policy

No, UW does. LSU gave a little under $50M

In a 6 year span not per year

Why do the professors feel entitled to the fruits of the athletes’ labor?
because they are arrogant, smug, bubble-dwelling, pricks who think they are better then the athletes and anyone else who isn't in academia. Most of them couldn't hold a job outside of the university, therefore they fiercely protect the teat from which the suckle. Ever seen a politician vote for a pay decrease or less benefits? Ever seen any government agency say they can do with less? NO.
university employees are no different.
They may be forced to do with less, but they scream and squall like calves at a weaning. Losing the teat hurts.

I stand corrected then. I thought that was per year.
ETA: My original point stands though. When UW gives money to academics, it's earmarked for certain uses, not just how the academic side, like LSU, sees fit.

Pretty much this.
LSU athletics is one of the main athletic departments in the country which runs an annual profit.
The athletics side giving money to the academic side should be making more news because it is so unusual. Instead, we get some selfimportant shithead pissed off that athletic donations are spent on what they were earmarked for by donors.
A competent administration would have been pushing back on the bad PR about the locker rooms by giving hard numbers of how much the athletic department has given as well as concrete projects to show as to what that money went to.
Of course, I think that latter part is the huge problem because F King’s hooker and blow lounge isn’t PR friendly.

I've got as many problems with F King as the next guy, but that's pretty much exactly what he's done.

I don't have enough knowledge of LSU's situation to have an opinion over whether this is a right thing or a wrong thing, but I do know that if it's the Athletic Director making the decision and not the University administration and faculty (in consultation with the AD), then LSU is totally fricked. Hard.

QFT. That's what I was talking about. Right or wrong about the money itself, THIS is what says LSU is worthless as a school.

Is the main function of a university academics or athletics? I swear it seems most of the average fans think the latter.
These days, it's neither. The modern purpose is to be a conglomerate, with rock star executives gettin' paid rock star money, and treating the employees and customers like shite, just like every other big business.

Very very misleading title, this is 100% not what is happening. "The transfer policy for this year remains unchanged, but it is being reevaluated. As Scott made clear in the article, athletics will always support the university, but we want to find a way to do it that is sustainable for all of LSU. We are working with the university to do just that and any change would require the approval of the President and the Board of Supervisors"
Posted on 7/29/19 at 4:28 pm to HailHailtoMichigan!
How does the AD make this decision on his own? Doesn't he work for F. King and the board?

They'll still get funding for specific things. But the AD will have oversight into what the money goes towards. They will not receive an automatic check every year to waste on whatever they want.
Which is exactly how it should have been in the first place.

Finally. Its the only athletic department that I am aware of that actually gives funds to the university and not the other way around.

The legislature should be supporting LSU, not the athletic department.
So, in this vein, LSU needs to start charging for the use of its "Tigers" trademarks (and all other related marks).
The football team is a small part of a big school and should not play the role of the bully on the block.

Pretty sure the tigers trademark belongs to the athletic department.
And why are you being such a bitch about this? Bottom line is the university does a piss poor job of managing it's money. Since F King has taken over the university as a whole has went down hill from an academic performance perspective. Mainly due to his policies.
And does the university share any revenue with athletics from the extra money it brings in from all the visitors?
Why shouldn't the AD have a say so on what they contribute to?
Why does F King feel like that money is better spent on academics instead of reinvesting in the AD and creating a better revenue stream like Alabama and UGA have?
In the end this was supposed to be a temporary agreement to help the academic side during budget cuts, those budget cuts are no longer, so the AD shouldn't have to contribute that.
