The point is the mayor and city Council aren't doing shite. They don't have a plan and they haven't acknowledged a problem. They're publicly spending their time in meaningless bullshite.

Landrieu had held local precinct meetings to discuss the statues. Not the crime or any other issues.

It's not deflecting. They're willfully ignoring the problem.

NOPD is vastly underfunded from my readings plus the whole political structure in that city is corrupt, and it has been corrupt before landrieu, so it's unfair to place all the blame on them. He has put forth various programs to try to steer kids from the streets, whether it's NOLA youth works or the midnight basketball league. Some of this falls on the parents and the criminals for not expecting more of themselves. Yet there is obviously various inadequate socioeconomic systems and structures in city that affect them more than it does the wealthy.

They need a rehaul of the public school system and the early education system. And NO needs to attract or invest in some viable employment and career options outside being a busboy, cook, waiter, or a street music player. Those are much much harder platforms to a make upward mobility through

Nah, it is a pretty good analogy. Giuliani listened to experts and came up with a plan. It wouldn't be the exact same plan for NOLA, but it would at least be proactive instead of reactive or in most cases non-existent.

I hate this line of thinking.

Well it was bad before so no reason to blame anyone now.

frick you. And frick Mitch. Race baiting worthless sack of shite Mayor. At the very least he could acknowledge there is a problem and assure the citizens he's working on it. But nope.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way. You are trying to fight the symptoms we need to cut it off at the source. Irresponsible women are producing these thugs on a daily basis, but are rewarded for doing so. We really can't take away their right to reproduce, but if we had harsher punishments for thugs that commit gun crimes, eventually there won't be many around to reproduce and make more.

True on the tax base part, but the problem has been and always will be how we punish these type of crimes. If we come down harder on these crap we can clean it up in 20-30 years easy.

In a state that already punishes black men at a disproptionately and scientifically significant rate higher than any other group, and in a country that's seeing that more jailing isn't necessarily a good thing long term, I don't see this as a viable option.

We shouldn't just care more because a bunch of rich white people got robbed. New Orleanians continually ignored the pressing crime issues as a "them" problem as if neighborhoods aren't side by side and as if their problems won't leak into their neighborhoods. The ills that effect them effect everyone else around them. We're too interconnected for it not too.

I expect them to provide and adequate, trained, and competent police force.

NOPD is only part of the problem. The courts and the DA's office are equally to blame.

Then ask for money. Go on the local, state, federal level if need be. Sell cookies door to door. Don't fricking give excuses, come with solutions.

What is the mayors plan right now to solve this? What is he saying he needs?

That is all I want too hear.

A private citizen made him look like a fool in the French Quarter when Mitch said it couldn't be done.

Right. Give them a job. That solves it. Because they just really want to work 8-12 hours a day 5-7 days a week to better themselves. They don't really want to get high all day and rob a couple of times a week.

You are so full of shite. Stop jailing them. Don't punish them. L O fricking L

He does speak about it. Can he do better? He sure as hell can. But he also needs to his constituents to do their part as well .

First thing, IMO, is attract a viable industry to New Orleans, sort of like how they offer tax breaks to the film industry. The city has 4 universities, 2 medical schools, 2 nursing schools, several hospitals and their STEM productivity is mediocre to average at best.

If we had system that gives you life without the possibility of parole for armed robbery it would solve alot. We also need to make any murder or attempted murder with a gun punishable by death that will be executed by no more than 2 years after the perp is found guilty. If the laws worked like this universally, I'd bet that violent crimes would fall dramatically in 15 years

It is definitely the fault of the mayor, the city council, the police superintendent, the court system, the supervisors, and the shift supervisors that people who are getting paid to do police work are not. That is 100% fact. The mayor and city council flat out don't care, and the rest are just lazy and blame the crime on citizens or statues half of the time. They get paid to do the absolute bare minimum and don't get punished for doing things incorrectly or not at all.

Would you rather 3 incompetent cops that can't even find a bleeding guy in a closet and can't see the gun sitting right next to him, or one good cop after firing all of the tards?

I mean, the mother fricker is still trying to get the statues taken down. It's not even a big enough topic anymore for the media to care. Give it the frick up and start doing your job

We do like Israel does to the terrorist's families. If their son is convicted his family lose their house and property. (I think they go so far as to bulldoze the house).

We cut off ALL benefits to the family of any person convicted of a capital crime. Put them out even, get them incentive to keep their kids in line. These robbers like this, we give them life.

Identify the problem
Root cause the source
Present a solution
Implement the solution

We don't have the funds for a solution? Take the same four steps to solve the funding problem.

It doesn't even seem like the mayor wants to acknowledge a problem at this point.

Throwing people in jail was an adequate societal solution in 1983. And that only exacerbated the problems by locking up a generation of young men. That's not a viable solution in my opinion.

Revamp public schooling, reempahsized early childhood education--most of these kids dive off into the bad directions at 4 and 5 years old due to a litany of reasons, and I can gurantee you you will see rampant changes 15-20 years from now.

The last thing a city like NO needs is more cultural arts and music charter schools. Scrap that crap the city has enough musicians and its arts traditions can be maintained without producing 2000 more failed brass players. Step up STEM schools, have pipelines to Xavier, LSU, Tulane, etc , set up industries for the kids to come back and it will flourish
