I'd rather go to Orange Beach in 3.5 hours most of the time. Destin area sometimes has nicer water but not always. It's more crowded too. The 30A area is filled with pretentious assholes. Not for me.

If i am going to the beach to have fun with friends I want to go to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. If I am going with family I would rather go to 30A for sure. When I went to Rosemary it was all families with younger kids.

Went to Grayton Beach for the first time last year. Best beach I've been to.

I liked Watercolor when I went with an ex a few summers ago. It was fun and the houses were obviously nice.
I had 1000000X more fun when I went to the Florabama on Spring Break for 7 straight days, 2 Spring Breaks in a row Junior and Senior year of college.

Never done the 30A thing. When i was a kid really all there was Ft. Walton/ Destin. When I started having kids of my own we did Destin once and then started doing a week at Caribe in like 07-10. Started getting really crowded. In 09 my aunt finished her huge house on Ono so now we just usually stay there. We are not too much for the beach. We usually go to the public beach in OB early in the morning once or twice during our stay. Rest of the time we are on the Sea Doos and in the boat.
Wife has been on me to do the 30A thing and I tell her to plan the trip but she never does.

30A if you want to avoid all the riffraff.

Then he can't fog a mirror.
I was glad it flooded awhile back. Hopefully washed away some of my shame.

I know lots of marine service workers that have moved out to 30A, its not just for rich snobs like some have mentioned here.
hijack: Was anyone at crab island when that waterspout/tornado ripped thru last week? I was there and never saw crab island clear out so fast.

When I go to the beach I want to be on the beach in a house.
St George Island is > 30a and both OB/FM combined.

I don't understand the 30A car sticker obsession. What exactly are these people trying to brag about?
You are not in some super elite club bc you stayed on a shitty beach for a week last year. At least go to st.simons or one of the South Carolina beaches if you are going to throw a sticker on your car. Even then it is completely ridiculous.

It's like Yeti coolers and Costa sunglasses. It's like a high class redneck sorta thing or something I guess.

Rosemary Beach was a blast the last time I was there. Bar scene near Rosemary is non existent. I love the beaches about 15-20 minutes east of Destin.

I like that it only takes 3.5 hrs to get to orange beach

Everyone I know, moved there to avoid the traffic. They don't have status stickers on their vehicles. They aren't tourist either, though.

And one of the few places they allow you to drive your vehicle on the beach and park where you setup shop.

Nah, not redneck, "Southern." How many product lines use the word Southern to try to be "in" these days? Southern Marsh; Southern Tide; Simply Southern
I was forced into a store named Shades this past week that was filled with this stuff.

Right. But that type of "Southern" is basically "high class redneck".
