As someone who rarely goes to such things these days, I still think it's cool and fun and certainly not worth judging someone negatively about unless they were just completely overboard ridiculous about some aspect of it.

Also for some of those festivals, the crowds and amenities can be a real PITA so I wouldn't be down for that bullshite.

What do you think about these people? A guy I know (who is not gay), in his mid 30s, is just floored I have no interest in going to South by Southwest stuff all weekend.

I get the college kids, etc....but this seems odd to me that 30 and 40 something males are all giddy over live music.

It's an interest of theirs?
Just like some people would be floored for a weekend hunting or fishing. Or people that giddy over a trip to watch an LSU away game.

Also there is a lot of technology stuff at SXSW too. At this point, a lot of people that go have no interest in music.

When I hear the bands cranking it up from the Pavillion on the 4th of July, I'm there.

If you get giddy over Tiger Stadium or college football, you should shut the frick up because it's all the same. Live music is great. There is a reason it's been a thing since the beginning of time.

My wife works at a major concert venue. We get free tickets to all shows. It's the best thing ever. I Love going to shows. It'd take a serious raise for me to be on the side of her leaving for another job. I enjoy going to bands I don't even really like all that much.

He sounds dumb for thinking you're weird for not wanting to go, and you sound dumb for thinking he's weird for wanting to go.
