quote:

asper, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees, was standing guard over his flock of sheep one night in early November at his home in Decatur, just east of Atlanta.

That’s when a pack of nearly a dozen coyotes got too close for comfort.

Casper killed a whopping eight coyotes and managed to save all the sheep in his care. But Casper himself was badly hurt in the process.

The dog had gaping wounds to his neck and side. He also lost his tail.

Veterinary staff at Lifeline Animal Project – where Casper is still being cared for more than a month later – worried recovery wouldn’t be an option for the dog.

“How bad are these wounds, and is it something that can be fixed? Or is it something that is beyond fixing? You know, that is what makes the quality of life an issue,” said Katrina Coleman, a vet tech at Lifeline Animal Project.

But incredibly, Casper has healed better than they could have expected

Hell of a dog, hopefully he continues to recover.

Pyrenees don't play

Kangal would have killed all 8 and not had any scratches though

Must have fought them one at a time. If all 8 jumped on the dog at once, I don’t think he could have survived.

There’s a sheep farm in Dekalb County, Georgia? That’s hard to process considering how densely populated that county is.

I know of 3 cattle farms in New Orleans city limits. Farms are hidden everywhere.

Those dogs are so calm and docile with humans, but they don't play when comes to coons, coyotes, etc.

Very big, but good dogs.

I hate people who use guardian dogs by themselves.

You need it least two so this doesn't happen.

Odd for a pyre.

They generally can't fight for shite

Ours were always crossed with kangals for that reason.

Eta: downvoted from people with pyre housedogs and city folk.

I bet y'all would be real upset if I mentioned the same sex dog aggression that pops up around 2 years old in pyre livestock Guardian dogs

Those things are mean AF. I've seen them way off in the mountains by themselves guarding herds of sheep. Cool thing to see.
