Correct - there are indeed 5000 BTU units available at many retailer sites, Home Depot included . Are those units prices around $100 ? (as per your post)

Dont think I said that Home Depot doesn’t sell 5000 BTU window units. I did however say that you cant buy a window unit at home depot or elsewhere for $100 as you claimed.

Nice attempt at a rebuttal though bud.

HD 5K btu $169. 6K BTU $229.

HD opens til 10pm. There was a ton of 5K BTU and 20+ 6K.

You idiot! This was preventable. Your wife will probably hang you from the ceiling by your balls, if the temperature rises 2 degrees before the a/c man rapes you.

Its a GE. Pretty quiet outside. Not too loud inside. I bought a 6K. Blows cold and I'm happy with it.

I see Amazon has it for $208.

Low on freon.
Make sure your drain is unclogged.
Bring your water hose inside and spray the coil in the attic from the return air to defrost.
Use high velocity fan for a few to dry the coils as much as possible. Repeat the next day or days until it can be replaced or repaired. Be there and done that.

Not sure what you’re condenser unit looks
Like, but if it surrounded by grass, I’d suggest making a box around it, kill grass, fill with gravel.

Did someone put the thermostat on ON and run it all day? That can do it as well during hot temps. At this point just try to get someone to come clean, fix it, and recharge.

Clean it can help but if you have to “recharge” then you have a problem.
