I didn't watch it, but I can tell you that Stapleton has more talent than 95% of the people in that building.

So you can just call it whatever category you want? Next year, will she sing the same way and call it Latin Beats?
People that go to Beyoncé concerts are Beyoncé fans. People that buy her music are Beyoncé fans. No fricking person is playing her shite on while drinking beers on the Gulf of America. No country cover bands have any cowboy carter shite in their repertoire.
She didn’t change genres. She didn’t take over country music. She was abjectly rejected by country fans. This is a joke and embarrassment.
Imagine if they had given Michael Jordan a baseball player of the year award.

quote:Hard to disagree. If this would have happened 20ish years ago it’d be blasphemy, but with the trash people call country music today (minus Stapleton and a couple others), it’s not really surprising.
I'm not an expert on country music but that sounds EXACTLY like country music in 2024/2025
Songs used to tell a story with george strait, Alan Jackson, etc.. Now just throw in a few words like tailgate, cold beer, tan legs and you got yourself a bro country song.
They’re the ones keep trying to rap in their country songs, and invite rappers into their genre, so they shouldn’t be surprised when someones like her wins.

OT, on the other hand, typically constantly shite talks celebrities and media, yet seems to be more up to date on the goings on with these people.

I thought the Grammy’s had some cool moments last night, but with all the time they spent on Quincy Jones, I wish they had halved that and put together a small tribute to Kris Kristofferson. A medley with Sunday Morning Coming Down, Me and Bobby McGee, and maybe a Highwaymen song would have been awesome. If we are going to perform tributes to people who died last year with some good music, why not spend a moment on Kristofferson? Richard Sherman also only had just a picture flashed…don’t get me started on that.

Well, she didn't come close to touching Taylor Swift's sales and beat her too, so...........

I don't know how old you are, but Im of an age when everyone watched the awards shows when I was a kid. This was the era Johnny Carson and 3 channels + PBS , plus demographically we we a more a more similar population with more of a unified culture. So that was a lot of cultural investment in these things because it seemed like the whole country was watching to see if their favorite band or actors would win something. There’s a feeling that this was all hijacked and taken from us, often purely for spite, and that the attitude of the hijacker’s is “piss on you, normal people . What was yours is now ours and were going to wave that in your face”.
So amongst us older ones, yeah, theres a bit of resentment in what has happened. I haven’t watched an awards show in 20+ years, precisely because what used to be common culture is a freak show now. But it didn’t used to be that way.

That is exactly my experience and perception as well.

I only had to see this guy one time before realizing he was a special talent.

I don't know how old y'all are, but none of my friends watched award shows in the 70s.

My perception is geared more towards the 80s and music award shows. The TV/movie awards shows were on but as a young dude I didn’t pay as much attention. There seemed to be a lot more mainstream attention to celebs and such back then, at least compared to the last decade or two.

I can’t believe people still watch these liberal arse award shows. They will never get one second of my time

As someone who listens to country music radio stations almost exclusively, I have yet to hear a Beyonce song played, yet here songs appear at the top of country music charts. Hmmm

Ha......I just saw Western AF share one of Sierra Ferrell's acceptance speeches. People seem to be taking her getup seriously. That was about as tongue-in-cheek as you can get from her. It is cool for her to get some recognition. Western AF and others have been on her for years and years now, recording videos for her, pushing her albums and songs when no one knew who she was. They did the same for Charley Crockett, and he was up for Americana album of the year, too.

What is funny about Stapleton is that he was a great songwriter before anyone knew his name, but it was a David Allan Coe song set to an old blues/soul arrangement and melody that made him famous.
