Florida SB 46 has been introduced requiring parents to let their newborn undergo an eye exam using prophylactics (dilating your eyes). Babies’ eyes aren’t even fully developed until 8 weeks. Parents not having a signed objection letter on file and refusing to the exam will be charged with a second degree misdemeanor.

Is the exam shown to be necessarily harmful? What are the benefits and not of not having the exam?

And here I was thinking that the condom was invented in 1272 by non-Islamic Muslims

You are an idiot.

The eye ointment (prophylaxis) is to be placed in baby's eyes soon after they are born to prevent blindness caused by gonorrhea that wasn't diagnosed in the mother prior to delivery.

It is already a law in other states. It's a topical ointment that has no harm to the baby.

Heaven forbid we try to prevent blindness in babies.

Already law in LA

Edit - for premature babies - the procedure is not fun for parents or patient
