No chance. For all of Landry's warts, JBE was an unmitigated disaster.
I'm not some huge JBE fan but we are in exactly the same boat as we were under him. Nothing has changed except for the personal injury attorney lobby getting stronger, wasting money fighting ACLU lawsuits that Landry knew with 1000% certainty he will lose, and he rented an imposter tiger to come get made fun of by LSU fans.

What a lying sack of shite. There won’t be any land left down there without this project. He and all the commercial fishermen can go frick themselves.
I've read through this thread from the beginning, and so far this is the best post.

I disagree Landry wasn’t my first choice but the criminal justice laws were improved we have Troop Nola and we cut income taxes and got rid of some business taxes also new head of LED is much better than JBE appointment . Landry did sell out to the PI lawyers to get elected so I agree in that case he is no better than JBE and he needs to be called to the carpet for that the Legislature has enough votes to override him on that but are too cowardly to do Landry deserves criticism but to say he is no better than JBE is not true

Holy shite, one dude just comes along and sets Louisiana back a generation or two. Because yeah, the insurance hikes alone are not SCREAMING we need more coastal protection. The cycle is perpetuated.

It’s good until 2031.
That's good to know.
Can we think up a different (better?) project, get all the studies, evniro clearance, etc. done to begin construction by 2031?

Notwithstanding the latest special session on tax reform, of course.

Agree JBE did just that

It's not so much the land (re) gained, but the prevention of further loss. I grew up in Plaquemines Parish so I totally get what the project is there to do.
The oystermen and shrimpers can take a back seat on this one, this is protection for what's left of the West Bank!
At one point in my life I wanted to come back to Louisiana, but with the combination of JBE and Landry, in comparison Mississippi is a much better place to live!

This past session, the 4th Floor worked against and helped kill Alan Seabaugh's bill that would have provided at least some statutory parameters in regards to the legacy suits/issues on private lands.
Yep, a cursory review of Landry's large money donor(s) reveals why.

So whose running next term for Governor?
Please give me some good candidates

I don't know man - they have been studying this one up for a decade. 5-6 years seems like not nearly enough time.

Landry gives conservatives a bad name. He is the Gavin Newsome of the right.

I hate 5hat he was the best of the two candidates because I really fricking regret voting for him.

3 billion for 21 square miles over 50 years doesn't sound like a good use of taxpayer money .

Mid-Barataria would mostly be funded with lawsuit settlement funds and fines from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon blowout and oil spill, money which ordinarily would flow into the U.S. Treasury.
Most of money is from the Feds. Now they'll get to spend it on Texas and Florida coastal projects. Yay.

Just my personal opinion, which means nothing, but I thought both John Schroder and Sharon Hewitt were good candidates last go-round.
Didn't matter.

Who was the second candidate?

They're too short sighted. If they get their way, nothing will be done. The land loss and saltwater intrusion will continue and get worse after every storm. And eventually the west side of the river will be nothing but open water (more so that it already is) with no marsh estuary to provide the nursery for all the seafood they make their living on.

Shawn Wilson
He wasn't the only other option. It was a primary.
People were fearmongered, and voters bought it hook, line and sinker, that somehow if there was a runoff Shawn Wilson would win like JBE.
Wilson had ZERO chance to win a state-wide runoff election. Zero.

I live on the west bank of Jefferson Parish. All you need to do is drive down to Lafitte and you will see how breathtaking the land loss is, even from 20 years ago. I can promise you that there will be nothing left in 50 years. The diversion will help communities like Lafitte (as it will come in just below them), but the fishermen are too stupid to see the long term benefit.
The river built the delta, and it needs to be opened and allowed to build delta again. Those marshes and swamps on both sides of the river protect over a million people by dampening hurricanes.
