One of my good friends was adopted and so was my mother. This is def better than leaving the baby somewhere to just die. At least there is a chance of finding a loving house hold this way.

They got the idea from the change jar at 7-11. Leave a baby/take a baby.

Repurposing all those old Blockbuster stores

Until the 1940s or so, many convents in Europe and the US had these. Thoughts were better an orphanage than the situation the babies would have been in.
ETA they usually had a bell for you to ring to let the Nun on call know. The door worked where the Nun couldn’t see who left the baby.

These are actually pretty commonplace at many fire departments,
Wrong. Unless it’s some small Volunteer Cracker Jackville Department.
The reason volunteer departments can have these is because they’re run by the people/volunteers, same with private hospitals.
Any large paid department is a city agency. Something like this wouldn’t pass thru the city council and firefighter’s union.
You could always drop a baby off to a fire station, and we are not allowed to ask questions. But large professional departments have manned stations 24/7, so the boxes aren’t needed, regardless.
As for the story, that’s the most despressing thing I’ve seen in a while. This world has become a shite hole with shite arse people.

Any idea what happens if you go to drop off and the box is already full/overflowing?
Go to the one in the next ghetto over.

Those signs are more like suggestions. Like gun free zones.

this is at least better than some dipshit leaving a baby in a fricking garbage can.
For some reason I dont think this will stop one dipshit from leaving a baby in a garbage can.

I have a three week old at home and the thought of putting her in this box makes my stomach curdle

In 9 months, instead of pushing her down the stairs, using a coat hanger, or going to Abortion clinic, just drive to Indiana, and drop the little booger off in a drop box.
So you are making fun of letting a baby live as opposed to killing it? Gotcha.

Baby Moses law. In Texas you can drop a baby off at any hospital, child welfare agency, any EMS provider, such as a fire department, and no questions asked as long as it shows no sign of abuse. Or they may ask if it has any helath problems. It's pretty sad but I feel the alternative is much worse.
The problem is that it is rarely used and there are countless cases of death from neglect or abandonment from shitty people.

Baby Moses law.
Same as in Tennessee. Safe Haven Law. You can leave your baby, up to 3 days old, with an employee at any hospital, birthing center, community health clinic, and outpatient, walk-in clinic in Tennessee.

Has no one here ever heard of the leaving a baby on the steps of the orphanage trope?

My kids understand the fire station laws so when they are really bad I take them there and get out like I’m gonna drop them off. Scares them straight for the next week. More than Santa Claus.
