Golfers, what tees do you play from vs handicap?

I've always heard don't back up a tee box unless you can consistently score 80 or less from the tees you're at. I'm an upper 80s type guy, but like playing from the tips. Just seems like cheating the game trying to play from the whites or closer tee boxes.
What says the OT on this matter?

how does it feel like cheating? You're not a professional so playing from the blues isn't really a big deal. It's not like you're playing from the ladies tees.

You should play from whatever tee boxes give you proper approach shots, e.g. if you are hitting wedge as your approach on every hole that you hit a good drive, then you need to move back and vice versa.
Also, picking a set of tees to use at every course is silly. I play from whichever tee boxes put me closer to 6500 yards. I am an 18.5 handicap.

Doesn't matter really to much. Just go out have fun and don't worry about keeping score just memories

Don't question him. He's an expert golfer and almost certainly hits 300+ yard drives due to his 6'4" frame

I'm a 7-8 handicap and play the one ups most of the time

Im mid 70's to low 80s. No active cap now but I was a 6.8 last active. Play from the back or one up.
I rarely see people playing from too far back...most need to move back. That said, if you are holding people up and struggle to hit the green in two you need to move up.

The tees you use are factored into your handicap, so it doesn't really matter.

I've played from the tips before. I should not. BUT IMO distance and course conditions dictate.
Some courses do not take care of tees beyond tips and one up, so if you are hitting out of a crappy tee box? Why? Or if the course yardage is such that it feels like cheating. Meaning I have a 9-iron in my hand at every par 3 it is ok to move back.
But if it is a nice course I have no business hitting from the tips.
CSB..... I played once as a single and got paired with a guy. He strolls back to the tips. I am playing one up. He WHIFFS his tee shot. Then blasts 2 more into water short and right. The OLD LADIES who were in a foursome and allowed us to go first as we were a twosome saw enough. They pipe up as the moron is teeing up his 4TH ball from the tips. He gets in a short shouting match with them before picking up and dropping short of the water.

0.4 usually I play all the way back. except for Uclub, ill play the scratch tees and if I'm with a group that all play 1 up...then ill play 1 up with them.
