Swine flue had virtually zero societal response. This one has much more than 3x that response. Until we see even comparable numbers people are going to wonder why we are going nuts over this one. The question is, was Swine flu an “acceptable” amount of deaths? Because we didn’t do much to stop it.
These comparisons will simply continue until people see that it’s a significantly worse event.

Let's try this another way. You can't compare how many people die from the flu to how many are dying from this. You can't because the flu is everywhere, every year. Many more people are exposed to the flu than to corona at this point. Of course there will be more people dead of the flu. If at this point the SARS-CoV-2 virus was equally prevalent it would kill WAY more people. Why is this so hard to understand?

Are you sure about that? We haven’t tested the population how do you know how many have been infected and recovered without needing medical help

According to American Heart Assoc.,in 2017 647,457 Americans died from heart disease.That’s average of 1,773/day and people continue to gorge on the crappy American diet that is in large part responsible.

Because it’s an incremental, potentially deadly disease, that’s all that matters. It’s not like it’s competing with the flu.

I don’t think you realize what this is doing to the economy. Every week that we are shut down is effecting this nation exponentially. The economic fallout from this virus is going to become way worse than what this virus could do.

The problem is this: you could have 20x more people infected now than are reported but the vast majority of deaths are reported in countries other than China. So it may not be killing at anywhere near the rate they are projecting.

Yea, but Im not talking about rate at all. Im talking about how quickly weve gotten to a threshold of daily total deaths. This has nothing to do with undercounting the denominator.
In fact, that argument supports that this virus is even more contagious and deadly (killing more people daily).
