We have no way of knowing that. The denominator is unknown and may never be known. More than half the positives have been asymptomatic, which makes it likely many more contracted and never knew it. The media is reporting these meaningless percentages to grab headlines and to try and sink the economy and OMB with it.

We do though because even without knowing the denominator for mortality, we know the numerator for deaths. And the ~1200 deaths per day we are getting worldwide right now in about 3 months is 3x faster than swine flu got to the same amount.
All these people that don’t understand growth rate are going to be shitting themselves at the daily stats pretty soon if this continues

BS, H1N1 killed up to 600k worldwide and 80% of those were UNDER 65 yrs old.

Let me try to explain exponential transmission. Imagine Tiger Stadium is a water tight and patient zero is a single drop of water. Every minute the amount of water doubles. It would take 50 minutes to fill the stadium to the top. The grass on the field wouldn’t be completely covered until 45 minutes.
If people were inside while this was happening and couldn’t get out, they wouldn’t notice that there was a serious problem till the grass was covered. By then it would be too late.
